Lathered with MDC and used a Feather on its 2nd time around. More blade feel than my 0.74 SS but that was expected. I'm going to shave with this one awhile before I decide it is THE one.

So the prices being what they are I went with Basic Polish. I sent an email to Tara this morning 'Mistake With My Order' ....

"James must have made a mistake ... this bronze WR1/Darwin/WRA2 stand couldn't possibly be BASIC polished !

It is impeccable and shines like the sun !!! I couldn't imagine a polish job that would be superior !!"

My poor photos don't do it justice. I'll be doing the 'antiquing' on it soon.

Gorgeous Jimmy, sweet!
I think the Darwin handle and Wr1 is the best combo imo. How does .80 compare to your .86?
Frankly I'm a bit confused about this one myself. I'm going to shave in awhile and will update, but so far it is a considerably more aggressive razor than I anticipated ... or maybe it's me.

Had my 4th shave with the bronze beast and it was encouraging. My first shave, using a 2nd use Feather I felt the 0.80 was a hell of a lot more aggressive than the 0.74 SS DC with Darwin handle. My third shave with it, 3rd use of the Feather I got a nasty nick on the left side of my neck, towards the back, and .... my nostril, just under the nose ... never did that one before in 57 years of shaving. Definite pilot error on both nicks.

The third shave I approached with caution. I used a Voshkod. It was decent. Two pass and DFS. Still felt the 0.80 was more than the 0.74 by quite a ways.

Tonight I just shaved with a new Polisilver. Two pass and it was quite a pleasant shave. BBS and no irritation.

Before I paid the invoice I still had the window to change the gap, and something was telling me to go 0.74, but I've been thinking about the 0.80 being the 'sweet spot' for so long ... I had to just go for it. I don't know whether I've bitten off more than I can chew, or if I just had a few bad days.

One way or the other I'm sticking with this as is. My next order will be for the bronze WR1 0.74 OC. Not sure which handle.

Comparing the 0.80 with the 0.86, the 86 is more aggressive of course, and I suppose more blade feel. The thing that confuses me is how much more of both this 0.80 has than my SS 0.74.

So much so that I loaded both to compare exposure and gap and see if they were radically different and with the naked eye I couldn't tell them apart. Anyway .... maybe I'm just getting old.  Rolleyes

Current order is bronze, and then I think I'm done.  Huh

Jimmy…. Today is May 10, 2022

You’re saying the bronze .80 WR1 delivering on May 11 is your final razor order?

I’ll take this bet, YOU Sir are NOT done, hahahaha.  It’s the thought that counts tho!

Yep, already planning the sequel , a bronze WR1 0.74 OC. Glad I didn't take the bet !  Big Grin

Thanks for the update Jimmy. I’m surprised there is a noticeable difference between the .74 and .80 as they both have the same blade exposure and the gap is just a fraction of a mm larger… I’m going to take another look at the .74 DC.

It is a mystery to me. I have a WR1 0.94 DC, WR1 0.86 OC, WR2 1.25, 1.35, 1.55 !!

I shave with all of them. Maybe it is the weight throwing me off ? The Bronze WR1 (mine) is 10 grams lighter than my SS WR1 0.74. Basically the same razor. So I had been shaving with the SS for a week or more anticipating the arrival of the bronze.

Maybe it's just a period of adjustment.

JimmyH- I know you’re a seasoned user of DE Razors, I just wanted you to know that I’m hoping you give the .80 a little time to see if it will work for you. The .80 is my personal Goldilocks, and I get excellent results with it. I’ve used all WR1 gaps from .60 up, and for me the .80 is where it’s at in both OC and SB. When I bought my first few Wolfman Razors, off of the Twitter drops, the highest gap I had tried was .74. LOOT talked me into trying some larger gaps and said for him they smoothed out the shave. I tried it, and had the same experience. I tried all kinds of different blades with the lower gaps and just couldn’t seem to get a smooth shave out of them, and to my thinking going up in gap would only make the shave even more rough. LOOT was right, for me, the shaves were significantly improved. I went through a ton of trial and error trying to find “the one”, but I’m happy I finally did. I know we all have different preferences etc., I’m just hoping that a Razor as beautiful as yours can be a winner for you and that the above was just an ‘off’ shave.

I have to chime in here as well because I started with a .74 several years ago in the WR1 and slowly made my way all the way up to the .94. I found my favorite gap in the WR1 is the .86. I never did try a .80 but I have heard a lot of guys that love that gap. I am a higher gap shaver and my go to gap in the WR2 is the 1.55 and I have every gap from 1.25 all the way up to 1.65. I am fortunate to be able to experiment with several gaps in all of the Wolfman designs and now start higher because for me the higher gaps are smoother on my skin. I started with .74 and .80 in the WR-3 and absolutely love them. I think i could go up to a .86 in the SB version. I think everyone chiming in here is saying that everyone has a different gap love and to really give it a chance before giving up on it. Try different blades and different angles. Good luck!!
By the way, LOOT may be the most experienced Wolfman user and owner on here and he has always been extremely helpful to me when it comes to choosing my gaps and blades…….except when it comes to Single Edge razors. He doesn’t do SE’s but we are all trying to work on him with that!

I just received today a WR1 0.86 OC in copper. Haven’t had a chance to shave with it yet but I took some pics. It’s nice and shiny, and I do like the colour of copper razors. It’s my first WR1. Wasn’t really a huge fan of my WR2 1.35 - didn’t like the excessive gap and found it less efficient than I expected - and am hoping the more conventional WR1 design and slim head will be more my thing. Anyway, I love the way it looks in copper with the Darwin handle.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm not giving up on the 0.80. I too have been influenced by LOOT. He was kind enough to loan me his Ti 1.55 for a week, and I found it to be a wonderful shaver, and bought one in SS before the Ti became available again. I have since gotten a 1.35 in Ti which I love.

I had a similar experience with the WR1 0.94 DC as I'm having with the 0.80. I had to shave with it many times before it became comfortable. I don't know what that's about. I too have quite a few WR 1&2 gaps, and started with the 0.61. The 0.74 performance prompted me to sell those years ago.

I'm going to stick with the 0.80 until I'm used to it. I had hoped it would be a slight step above the 0.74, and maybe it is. I'm thinking the weight difference between the two, slight as it is, might account for my initial results. Or 'bad hand days' ....  Rolleyes
