Underrated Soaps? Please recommend some.

Tallow + Steel and Bufflehead are wonderful soaps. Bufflehead subject to limited availability but if you can grab a tin, do it!

Tallow + Steel Grog is a beautifully done riff on Bay Rum and an amazing performer as well.

Eufros is another top performer that gets intermittent discussion but not widespread.

L&L Grooming. The new bison tallow formula is fantastic with a handful of botanicals to enhance the shave. Cuir et Epices has a great leather oriented scent with notes of anise, cedar and oakmoss to complement.

Sapone di Paolo. He has a new formula on the way. His V1 is solid so looking forward to trying V2.

Haslinger is for me and in the grand scheme of things, probably underrated compared to other flavor of the month soaps that are all the rage on forums and then are never talked about 6 months later.  I'm sick and tired of formula changes and soap versions.

You really think underrated or under discussed?

I'm looking at these three soaps, any opinion of them?

Midnight & Two - Can't find much information about this beside the beautiful tin.
Tallow + Steel - The dark seems to be up my alley.
Bufflehead - Duck tallow? I don't think I have try that in any of my soaps thus far.
Jeeves of Hudson - Hear good stuffs!
Van Yulay - With the title "Soap of the God", it sure attracts my attention.

I have several soaps from Monica at Van Yulay. Very, very good soaps, IMO. They offer samples, just try some before committing to a full tub would be my advice.

I think Underrated and Under Discussed are related when it comes to researching shave products.

If an underrated product really is "all that", it will be widely discussed and will run like a wildfire through the forums.

With multiple shave forums around the world, discussing shave soaps on a daily basis, there aren't too many hidden gems any more.

I do think Haslinger is not under discussed these days but I would call it underrated because of its 60g size. Bruce, I and others love the pucks dimensions. As is, cut into shaving dishes and shaving sticks and on. People sometimes correlate the small puck with 'small' performance. Perfect soaps.

Not a big name, not even a soap.. lol

Biotique spa shave cream. $10 bucks on amazon or ebay shipped. Very good stuff and underrated.

The ingredient list in Biotique shave cream is not fully stated. Others have said it is an ayurvedic cream and therefore exempt from disclosing ingredients per Indian regulations where the cream is made. My two cents

You know, Primo, I don't happen to care for MWF but I do own it.  It may not be listed because so many of us, no matter which side of the fence we're on about the soap, have it in our dens and have tried it.

It's a staple, like Tabac or Old Spice. Hardly under discussed and probably not underrated.

Haslinger is good but I think the price is a killer. Average Joe is going to click on Amazon, see its $13 shipped, Buy it, then figure out its $6.00+ an oz and scream. That's more than popular artisans, twice the price of Mystic, more than Klar, and a few dollars away from premier stuff like C&S. I know you can get it cheaper overseas but most people wont do that. This pricing strategy, while seemingly clever, probably hurts them.

In terms of discussion, one thread "over there". one post for 7 years, a few posts then nothing for 2 years, then 1800 posts in a  year or so from sudden converts who repeatedly post in the same thread. In a way, that sure sounds like flavor of the day.

The question becomes whether or not it will eventually become a staple like Tabac, or be a fad that disappears. I am afraid the cost, in the end, will decide. And the weak scent probably doesn't help, but scent is a personal thing.

I'd call it under discussed but not under rated. It has its advocates that like it.
