Mongoose is back with a Minigoose

Maybe a good time to add my two cents on the new Mingoose.

I had 2 days of growth, brand new Schick Chinese blade, jabonman Tobacco, applied with a Paladin 26mm knot.

If you had any of the previous Mongoose razors, you will be struck by how small this razor is. Actually it is unusually small taking into account you are going from the AC to the injector Blades. Once you hold the schick blade up to a regular DE blade, the actual cutting surface is almost the same. As suggested earlier, you need to pop the blade out of the injector and place onto the pegs on the Mingoose.

The Mingoose is slightly heavier than it looks. Lots and lots of metal. Is this a bad thing, no but it can make your life complicated if you don’t respect the injector Blades. Are they as sharp as the AC blades, no but the are sharp, and if you apply pressure to this hefty little razor, your likely to draw blood. Lesson learned.

So how does it shave? In MHO it is closer to its bigger brother than an injector. If you had no problem with the shaving angle of the mongoose ( any version), than the Mingoose will give you no problems.

How was the the shave? For the first of many runs, most excellently. I’m lucky in that the Schick blades are good for my skin type so all was good. Just to repeat, injectors Blades already work for my skin so the Mingoose worked well. For some they don’t, so I’m not sure the Mingoose will change anything for you.

Based on ONE shave, who might find this one interesting;

Someone who has some injectors lying around that work for them and wanted to give a mongoose style razor a try,
Someone who complained the cutting edge of the AC blades in general were to unwieldy,
Someone who had an extra $165US sitting in their PayPal account doing nothing, and
Someone who loves the Mongoose and wants to try something new, but still be comfortable with the Mongoose platform.

I certainly didn’t have the $165 Burning a hole in my PayPal account, but I loved the Mongoose, (despite selling all the ones I had...), I had no issues with the width of the ACs, and I do have some injectors hanging around ready to be used so I’m in.

The second shave with my MinGoose was as efficient as the first. That includes all the usual trouble spots, especially on my neck. This is a devil of a shaver: small but efficient. If you have a heavy beard, and enjoy the injector blades, you'll like this cute little razor. Really, think smaller version of the Mongoose.

For me, though, the razor is a wee bit more aggressive than I like. The Mongoose was and that's why I let it go. I would put the MinGoose toward the upper wrung of mid-aggressive razors. If you have ultra sensitive skin, skin similar to mine, then you will not like this razor. If you, however, don't worry about sensitive skin, and have a tough beard, you will not be disappointed in this razor.

For me, after two shaves, the MinGoose is not a good match for my heavy beard but ultra sensitive skin. My motto is: comfort over perfect. The MinGoose gives a perfect shave, about as BBS as you can get, but it is not all comfortable for me. That's why the razor will be heading to the BST. I hate to let go of it — such a cute little thing, and one that would work perfectly as a travel razor — but perhaps someone else will enjoy it more than I.

Your beard and skin sound similar to my situation. I'm curious what your favorite razors are? I have a few that I've really grown to love; Supply Provision with plate one but only with a Schick Proline, Blackland GEM, and a few other Schick injectors with the twin blades. All of these have exceeded the OneBlade V1 that was my previous favorite. The MiniGoose doesn't sound like it will work for me.

Second shave with Mingoose was just as close and just as smooth as the first. A slightly lighter touch results in less irritation overall. This razor acts like the larger brother. So far with shave number 2, an excellent razor. I have the Japanese Schicks on the way so will give them a try once the arrive. The Chinese Schicks are working well so far, so all good.

Second use with the Minigoose Injector. I bought one of the blemish razors as it has a very faint scratch on the head which absolutely doesn't take away from the great shaving ability of this little brother to the Mongoose. Used a Schick Proline P-20 blade and it performed fantastic. Easy smooth two pass shave to BBS. The handle though slightly short has an excellent grip. Totally satisfied with this purchase. And Maggard delivered it very fast via First Class.

The Proline B-20 are the Schick injector Blades from Japan.  I’m pretty sure they are different from the ones from China although I can’t confirm for sure. I have several packs coming.  I almost made the mistake and bought the “B” for my RX, rather than the “P” which is the AC style.  So having discovered the “B” injectors was a bonus, since I’m now using them with the Mingoose and the Supply razor.

The only down side to the B-20 is it has no key. Not an issue for the Mingoose but a slight pain in the butt for my schick Adjustable and the Supply razor.

Third shave was excellent, and my weepers were my fault. When all was said and done, the shave was most excellent. And lasts for two days..very few razors can do this for me.

Made in Japan. IMHO superior to the Chinese blades. Schick makes both AC & injector
