I asked Maggaeds about the performance and liked what they said. I like modern injectors and I only have the SP so far. A lot of vintage though which I like but I miss the heft of SS.

Looking for some reviews before I drop $$. I don’t have injectors and I have a dense coarse beard.

Gentlemen,

At first glance at the Mongoose MinGoose, I told myself, "This thing is really small." Then I realized I was holding a razor that uses the standard, and small, injector blade. Then I also heard myself say, "It's a cute little thing." And it is a cute little razor.

One would expect a bigger shave head, but that cannot be, because here we have a single edge razor that uses the same size blade that do the vintage Schick razors. The head is the same width as that of the vintage Schick razors, but it is also a little deeper.

The next thing to notice is the razor's weight. For a small razor, this is heavy. Well, it is in stainless steel, after all, with the weight mostly in the handle. Yet, in the hands, from where I hold the razor, it offers a good balance with a solid grip in the short handle.

It is obvious the Mongoose MinGoose is well made, with exceptional fit and finish. Of course, even though the razor uses injector blades, it is really not an inject razor that feeds the blade from a cartridge with a blade feeding system. That's why calling it an injector razor is a misnomer. In essence, this is just a smaller version of the Mongoose, using a short blade.

The little blade sits in the shave head the same way as the AC blade sits in the Mongoose shave head over the posts. There is some blade gap, and some blade exposure, I would say the same amount as those found in its big brother the Mongoose. The handle, a little over 3", provides a solid grip, and I think it's just the right length for this little razor.

The one drawback I noticed initially was the razor's weight. Some gentlemen might shrug that off. For me, though, I don't fancy heavy razors. On the other hand, the weight of the MinGoose isn't enough for me to give it a negative mark in that respect. What's more, the extra weight is to be expected from a stainless steel razor.

My first shave with MinGoose was quite efficient, and relatively smooth. No cuts or razor burn. This is a mid-aggressive razor, oh yes, which is something I did not expect. What gave me the idea that it would be a mild razor I don't know. I guess, I was thinking of the Supply Provision razor, a single edge that also uses the Personna inject blade, more or less the same as the Schick injectors, and that it is milder compared to the MinGoose.

The Supply's shave head is a wee bit bigger, with the razor's weight predominantly in the shave head, whereas in the MinGoose, the shave head is smaller, with the razor's weight predominantly in the handle.

Both razors are good shaver, although, as I noted, the MinGoose feels more aggressive. Nothing negative there. I'm sure gentlemen who like mid-aggressive razors will find the Mongoose MinGoose to their taste.

One really can't tell much about a razor from one shave. I can't, for sure. For starters, I need a few shaves to hone in the perfect angle. On the other hand, I know myself well enough to realize my ambivalence toward the Mongoose MinGoose. For instance, the Timeless blew me away with the first shave and I loved it. This one, though, has me walking a tightrope. Whether it's a keeper or not I will know with the coming shaves.

For one thing, I like mild razors, or razors on the lower end of mid-aggressive. The MinGoose is smack in the middle of "mid-aggressive." That's why I'm not sure if the razor is a keeper for me. Or it could be after a few shaves. After all, I have a drawer full of inject razor cartridges, Personna and Schick, and what am I going to do with them if I pass the razor on.

All too soon. Overall, I think the Mongoose MinGoose a good razor, especially if you enjoy the little mini-blades, and a mid-aggressive shave. It's also a curious little razor.

Nice first thoughts Obie. Do you have all three plates from the Supply razor? If so would you compare it to the third plate as far as efficiency?

It's nice to see another razor on the market but to me I don't want just another razor that shaves nice I want something that really impresses me at this point like the Timeless, Paradigm and a few others.

I no longer have my Supply razor. When I did, a few months back, I had two plates, the mid-range one, that actually came with the razor, and the aggressive. I never used the aggressive plate, though.

The Supply was a good shaver. The MinGoose is a good shaver, too. I had more shaves with the Supply, but have had only one so far with the MinGoose. A few more shaves from and I'll be able to form a better opinion of the razor.

Overall, I do like the MinGoose thus far.

Thanks for the great first shave perspective Obie. I almost bought one but I think I’m one of the few who just don’t get along with injector razors

Thanks for the kind words, my friend.
Don't forget, though, that the MinGoose is not an injector razor. Rather, it's a razor that uses injector razor blades. It loads the same way as its larger brother, the Mongoose.
