For some reason, I tried the Micromatic for my head shaves and I am getting some fantastic results, so I am contemplating the Sabre.
Thanks.

Miles apart. In MHO they get you to the same place, just with a different feel. The Micromatic OC while efficient is far more aggressive then say the clog proof or the GEM G bar. I would probably suggest that the Sabre has the calm feel of the clogproof with a nice weight.

It's sharp and it cuts. I like it...
Northeast, USA
7 days in, 7 great shaves with the Blackland Sabre. And still on the first GEM blade showing no signs of slowing down. What can I say that hasn't been said already? An extremely efficient, very intuitive and so good on the face shave, it is virtually impossible to tear your face up. Think OneBlade without a pivot, but whereas the guard on the OneBlade can feel perhaps a little grabby, the Sabre feels like coated Teflon running across your face. As you get accustomed to the angle, which comes rather quickly the shaves become smoother and actually faster. I was moving so effortlessly up and down my face, I was finishing my shaves in about 5 minutes which kind of left me sad in a way. I wanted to enjoy it more. Fantastic shaves from a fantastic razor.

Daily shavers that want a razor they can use without fear of nics, cuts or irritation can start their search with the Sabre. There are some pretty good GEM razors out there that can deliver a good, comfortable and close shave. Can't speak for the Rocnel or any of the Vintage classics out there, good in their own right. My search for a GEM razor started with the Sabre, and it just might have ended there for me. It was as good an introduction to the GEM world of shaving that in all honesty, exceeded my expectations.......

I was very impressed by the looks of the sabre but found it to be far too mild. This is not because I am an aggressive razor junkie. For me, it was so mild that I didn't find it to be very effective for my thick, dense beard. I think it could be considerably more aggressive and still be considered mild.

YMMV of course, but I just mowed down my coarse and thick 4-day beard with the Sabre. There might be a more aggressive base plate coming so that could be a better fit for you. Smile

I think a more aggressive plate would be a very popular option!

I've had 5 shaves with the Sabre. My first was pretty good. Shaves 2 & 3 were terribly inefficient. My angle had creeped down to where I was scraping across rather than slicing through my stubble, which also led to a great deal of irritation (thanks Barrister's Reserve splash for the quick relief and healing). After correcting my angle my last 2 shaves, both on 2-days of growth, the results have been so close that I couldn't justify shaving the next day. I still need to improve on my pressure, especially along my lower neck, as I'm still getting a few weepers with each shave. The irritation I received from shaves 2 & 3 though has not returned even with a much closer result.

My stubble is dense with sensitive skin underneath. I cannot even shave with a DE blade without tearing my face up. Since I've seen both how efficient and inefficient this razor can be, I'm surprised to hear how some others weren't able to find a way to get the Sabre to work for them.

YMMV is such a crazy thing. I believe that Shane has created exactly what he was after here and for that I believe he can be proud. A different base plate could be interesting and I must say that I would be quite tempted to try it out as well. Even if one doesn't come, I'm still quite pleased with my pivotless OneBlade, erm I mean my Sabre.
