Blackland GEM

It's interesting that the Sabre is likened unto a General. Soon as the Sabre makes it here to me, I will have both and I can't wait.

Would sure love to read more shave reports of the Sabre.

Maiden shave with the Sabre this morning. Design, look and feel is brilliant. The feel is definitely mild but the efficiency is there. I have a very coarse beard so don't go by me, as I need 4 passes plus touchups to get a BBS even with the also brilliant Blackbird. It is, as advertised, milder than the Blackbird, similar in feel to the General and OneBlade. I still get a very close shave near BBS in my neck and BBS elsewhere. It is a very safe feeling razor--hard to nick yourself with. Overall I love it and will keep it in the rotation, but if Shane came up with an alternate baseplate that was moderate in aggression that would be awesome. I don't like overly aggressive razors --e.g., I could not stand the Rocnel SE-G so I would rather see it be milder but efficient than aggressive. Overall great job by Shane and Blackland!!

Three days and three shaves with the Sabre. Today I didn't get nearly as close of a shave and my skin has been irritated all day long. The odd part is that even though I can feel the stubble, I look much closer shaved and my skin doesn't appear irritated.

I'm a little confused by this. More than likely I'll be using my OneBlade for the next couple of shaves before giving the Sabre another go.

Got my fourth shave in this morning with the Sabre, and I reiterate what I have stated in my previous posts, just a fabulous razor & blade combo. The shaves have been smooth, efficient and just a pure pleasure to perform. The razor is a work of art with clean and classic lines. The GEM blade just gets better and better. Definitely in the permanent rotation from here on forward.....

Had another shave with Sabre, but on a 36hour growth. CRSW Arctic was an absolute delight and the shave turned out to be one of the most pleasant, problem and irritation free BBS shaves. This is my only mild razor and I am very happy with it.

Try keeping the head against your skin and the handle out as much as possible. This should make a big difference and the shave should be a lot better. I am getting incredible shaves using this technique.

Try keeping the head against your skin and the handle out as much as possible. This should make a big difference and the shave should be a lot better. I am getting incredible shaves using this technique.

Yes Jerry, I read about your success with that. I think I was close to that technique on my first shave, but my last two have been at a steeper angle. I'll get back at it again soon. Thanks for the tips.

Have two shaves under my belt and both yielded excellent results. While I applaud blackland for considering a more aggressive plate, I go back and forth as to wether it will yield a better shave. Aggressive doesn't always equal a closer or better shave. I would probably suggest that a razor that gives a minimum blade feel and still yields a BBS is a well constructed, well designed razor. I only have a handful of razors in this category, (oneblade, Gillette toggle, and babysmooth) and these are what I consider my go to razors when I need a BBS and don't want to spend a lot of time second guessing the razor. I now add the Sabre to the ranks of well designed fall back "keepers" in my stable. Do I have the aggressive "chatter" or "singing" razors in my stable? Absolutely, and they have their place. Anything I would change? No other than I would have wanted a polished version, but the Brushed finish let's me off the hook all the time. Can't really be OC with a Brushed finish, but the polished is another matter.

My usual disclaimer, don't own shares, happily paid for my razor.

Thank you for your thoughts . I agree entirely. The Sabre has accomplished what I wanted it to. It's smooth, intuitive, and incredibly easy to use well. But if some of my customers want a more aggressive version then who am I to say "no"? I really value customer feedback and take notes so that I can incorporate customer opinion into future improvements, products, additions, etc. I'm not promising a more aggressive Sabre, but I've started prototyping it and we'll see if it goes anywhere.
