I was traveling yesterday and not sure I would be able to get an order placed in time. Got one though and already have the shipping notice. Looks like it will be waiting for me when I get home.

I think once you have some polished versions available, another massive sale will be in the making. I believe there are plenty out there who have not made the purchase who are waiting for those polished versions. I know, I bought a machined finish one and I still want a polished Sabre.

For those that are waiting for their Sabre to arrive, a quick pic. Shave #8 with the Sabre & GEM, hell of a shave. 2 1/2 days worth of stubble, 3 pass BBS. You boys are in for one heck of a treat.

• Blackland Razors Sabre •
• GEM PTFE (5) •
• Plisson Pearly Gray •
• PannaCrema Pure2O DFS •
• Barrister's Reserve Spice •

My skin feels so refreshed after this shave. I'm glad to be running the Sabre again after my trial with the Rocnel SE-G. The Sabre pairs with my sensitive skin better while still giving me the same closeness of shave as the more aggressive Rocnel. I'm validated now that I chose the best new SE razor for me to purchase. Now, go get one for yourself, unless you're waiting for the polished version.

I am interested to see what the polished version looks like.  To me, the matte finish is very aesthetically pleasing for this razor.

After having the polished Mongoose, I much prefer this machined finish on the Sabre.

I had been gone for a few days and when I returned on Saturday, there was the Sabre waiting for me. I had a few hours extra growth this morning and used the Sabre of course. Just what I expected, a very smooth and close shave. I shaved just as as I would with any other razor, everything was very intuitive. The finish on the razor is great. No doubt the polished finish will be outstanding but I am well satisfied with the standard finish. Thanks Shane, well done!

Finally... the long wait is over and I got my Sabre today. It was about 2 months waiting for it. Shane got it right out, but from there, what could go wrong did, with the forwarding company . But I got it and today was my first shave.

So I thought I'd give a review based on my first shave for those of you still on the fence or who are perhaps interested in yet another opinion. This is after only one shave and I am assuming I'll learn lots more, but still wanted to share my thoughts.

From a looks perspective, it is beautiful. I'm glad I didn't wait for the polished. The brushed look is superior to my way of seeing things. It is beautiful. The packaging looks nice and does it's job well. It keeps the razor safe. The razor has an industrial look to it some how. Simple, to the point yet beautiful in it's simplicity.

It is wonderfully balanced. I was wondering if I would feel compelled to get a bigger handle for it. But the stock handle is even better than I thought it might be. Feels very good in the hand. Plenty heavy, like I like, but not overbearing in the least.

For some comparison, my favorite razor is the brass Colonial, up to this point. I've been a wet shaver for years and have pretty much all the ATT DE razors. I also have 5 older GEM razors. MMOC, Pushbullet, featherweight and more.

To begin with, the Sabre is far superior to any of the older GEM razors I have. Part of the reason, to my way of thinking, is that the Sabre really locks the blade down tight. This gives a very nice feel to the blade which is superior to the way the GEM blades feel in the older razors. Not everyone will agree, of course, but that's my take on it.

I get a great shave with the brass General and the AC blades, but one thing is, I'm not crazy about how wide the blade is. I've grown accustomed to it. But the GEM blade is a more preferred width for me.

Something that surprised me is the efficiency of the Sabre. I kept hearing how mild it is. In reality, for me, it is quite efficient as well. Two passes this morning plus touch up and it was a full on BBS shave. It is not very aggressive but it is quite efficient. Which is nice. As I dial it in, I'm sure I'll get even better.

Another issue that concerned me is the center post. And experiencing it in action, first hand. I am no longer concerned at all. The threading is top notch. The handle threads on the post with ease. And the razor is locked down tight when the handle is screwed all the way on. I've taken it apart and put it together a few times. It fits perfectly. I feel like I should say more about this as it is a really spectacular design. It flat out works. If anyone felt like it might be weak, I think it is safe to put that to rest.

Usually it takes me a few times with a razor to get the feel of it. This one just feels right. Finding the angle was intuitive. Yet I know I'll get much better with a few more shaves.

The GEM blade feels like a new experience for me with the Sabre. I thought the older GEM razors would help prepare me. But not so much. They feel sharp and very capable. Very much like a bit narrower AC blade.

The craftmanship is superb. It ticks every box for me. The finish is better than the brass General - which I would expect for the difference in price.

The design is simply amazing. I don't see how it could be improved upon. The blade fits with very tight tolerances over the central post. It is a perfect fit. And due to that design choice, the balance is incredible. One more design choice impressed me. The handle flares out at the bottom. I'm not sure why I like it so much, but I do. It made it feel more secure in my hand somehow.

Three blades came with mine, so even if I didn't have any, I would be good to go until blades could arrive.

Now I'm wondering how many shaves I'll get per blade. I'm hoping at least 5. At 5 and above, I will be very happy. Curious how many shaves other are getting on a PTFE coated blade. I'm using the Personna blade.

I believe this will take top spot very quickly.

After a few more shaves, I'll post more thoughts.

Shane, you hit this one out of the park. I'll pick up your more aggressive bottom plate just to try it, but the razor is amazing. Thank you for making this a reality. It should be a huge seller.

Nice review TheKey. I do think that even though your first shave was great, that they will continue to get even better with the Sabre.

Regarding blade life I have been able to get 30+ shaves from a blade in other razors. I've not really keep track of the GEM with the Sabre but I know that I'm getting more than 10. Maybe with this next blade I will track my usage. I'd be confident to say that you should easily get 5 shaves from a GEM PTFE blade. For me the blades smooth out and really hit their sweet spot after a couple shaves and then remain that way for many more shaves to come.

Enjoy!
