Your thoughts on OneBlade

Third shave in total and first shave with the de-spined GEM blade and it was just as good as the Feather but you get that nice audible feedback from the GEM but no blade vibration or chatter to speak of. If I were to buy a OneBlade in its current incarnation I would use the GEM 'S as my preferred blade. I've had double figure shaves with them in my 1912 so I see no reason this couldn't be achieved with the OneBlade. I also don't feel it necessary to further clip or modify the GEM as there was no slippage or movement in the blade housing unit at all. It was another excellent smooth shave with no irritation at all or even slight redening of the skin. I'm particularly impressed by how sensitive it is to the skin on my neck while still giving an extremely close BBS shave.

I tried the de-spined Gem blade unclipped and thought it was much rougher than the feather blade and also less comfortable. Actually not very comfortable at all. This morning I tried the de-spined clipped Gem blade and with some trial and error figured out the clipping process leading to a flat Gem blade in the razor and no wiggle. And, the shave with the properly clipped Gem blade was very smooth, not rough at all and provided a shave closer than I have ever achieved in 50 years with any blade razor. The one blade razor with the Feather blade or a de-spined clipped Gem blade IMHO is the best there is. I do not feel a need to shave with any other razor now and I have lots. That is kind of disappointing.

Interesting report oldie. Glad you are finding what works best for you. Now to sell off all those other razors and purchase a backup OneBlade.

Don't be too disappointed. You now have the best shaves of your life, and don't need anything else. Heck, you can now sell all those other razors collecting dust that just paid for your OneBlade, and you might make some money on the deal on top of it!

I feel the same almost every time I go back to my ATT S1 , Mongoose and to a lesser extent my Futur. I use one of them and think "why do I use any other razor?" I think it's all the better having a few razors that make you want to sell off the rest but I can't bring myself to sell off my vintage Gillette adjustables and of course my recently acquired Darwin Deluxe.

I bought myself a OneBlade, used it for several shaves, and then I returned it for a full refund. There were no questions asked, and the refund was approved and paid within 24 hours. I have been experiencing the smoothest shaves imaginable for some time now, using other razors on par with the results I get with the OneBlade. I have nagging issues with the OneBlade. Specifically the massive case and stand, both of which I won't use. I don't use stands or cases. There's also something peculiar about the blade that feels artificial and insincere. Why didn't they just go with the common SE blade? I just could not get around that, even though all of the shaves I experienced with my OneBlade were as advertised, smooth and close (both Feather and Gem) but no closer or smoother than my normal daily BBS. I haven't been searching for a better shave for quite some time now. My reading of all of the OB marketing statements leaves me feeling patronized. The razor is what it is, and it can sell itself.

Gary, I appreciate reading your experience. I also like that we now have a documented case of a razor being returned and how easily that process went. Some have insinuated that they wouldn't honor the return policy simply because no one had spoken up about it before.

I agree about the case. It's useless to me and stashed away. I have no idea why I'm even keeping it. I can see your point there.

As to the marketing - well I find virtually all marketing as patronizing. There's is no different. Everyone wants your money. You can blame it all on Mr. Bernays and marketing practices.

My time is drawing to a close with the OneBlade and I have enjoyed having my opinion changed by this razor. Would I buy one for myself , possibly. Would I buy one for myself if they came up with a version that would allow me to use my all time favourite blade , the Feather Pro ; absolutely.
Until such times however I would stick to my Mongoose and ATT S1 , this is not to give a backhanded compliment to the razor at all but more in protest at the necessity to have to use the proprietary blade a maximum of twice or have to modify GEM se blades.

The idea I can remember being talked about back when I got into this hobby 4 years ago , a de/se/cartridge style hybrid ; would it work , could it work , should it work! In my opinion it does work. The build quality is great as is the design particularly the pivoting head that at least in my case has allowed me to a certain extent to almost disregard the tried and tested 3 pass , with , across and against the grain shave. I've achieved a perfect BBS with 2 passes that have consisted of a with the grain pass and a 2nd pass using a combination of across and against the grain strokes.

It will be interesting to see how many shaves i can get out of this current GEM blade before goodbye to this very unique razor.

I was going to get another SB anyway so I got the companion Thater. I know its a bit much. but if I didn't get the companion piece, I'd get buyers remorse. So here it is. BTW, once you use this stuff its about impossible to keep the stainless spotless. Everyday I use the razor, I get better and better in that its effortless.
