Your thoughts on OneBlade

I just scored a NIB on craigslist for 180. Can't wait to try it.

Congrats! Did it come with blades?

I find I can get 5+ shaves in a single blade. It shaves very much like a cart and is good for those days when I'm in a rush and a don't need bbs.

.... It does, however, take longer for me to get a bbs if I'm trying for that with a oneblade.

By the way, I've seen SharpSpine and others report on how well GEM blades work in the OneBlade after being de-spined (and possibly clipped? what does this mean?). This sounds like a silly question, but is there any concern that a GEM blade would subtly damage the OneBlade (like, if it's just slightly thicker than the Feather or whatnot)? Given how tight the tolerances are meant to be, I was curious whether this could be an issue.

Removing the spine is easy & so is clipping the back corners of the blade to try & get it to lay flat around the tabs inside the razor head. Both need a tool to perform. I remove the spine but haven't bothered with clipping parts of the blade off.

The GEM is actually slightly smaller than the Feather & should cause no more wear on the razor than using the Feather blades. The points of contact are the same basically. If the razor can handle the blade contacting it at the tiny blade stops without concern, then there should be much less of an issue at the other points of contact which are more robust.

The side cutouts of the Feather are larger than the side cutouts of the GEM. The OneBlade was designed to 'lock in' the larger cutouts of the Feather, but does not quite fit the GEM. So, when you put in a despined GEM, the little locks/tabs on the inside of the OneBlade push against the sides of the Gem causing it to slightly bend or 'smile', and the blade does not 'lock' in (but it is still secure). It is possible that after enough use, these little locks/tabs constantly pushing against stainless steel blades could potentially wear out... but maybe not... who knows, but I want to take care of my razor regardless.

I haven't gotten a chance to try the despined Gem myself yet, but when I do, I will despine with a 'nipper' (pliers can work as well), and use a metal hole puncher, called a 'nibbler', which can extend the side holes of the Gem to make it sit flat and 'lock' in. (Will report on this once I get home at the end of the month and have it tested, but there are already reports that this works fine.)

I do think you will enjoy the razor. Not that it is tied to performance in any way, but the attention to detail associated with the packaging is pretty impressive as well.

Yes every thing is included. All I did was Google "oneblade craigslist" and this ad for Baltimore was number 1 hit. He's since deleted it since we've concluded a transaction.

I couldn't believe my luck! I figured at that price, if I don't like it, I'm not going to lose anything. Yes, I could just return one bought from OneBlade within 30 days, but it may take me longer than that to decide if I like it.
