PhilNH5, I agree with you about the De Atramentis scented inks.  Their scent is faint and they dry scentless which seems to defeat the purpose, in my opinion.

alphege, what I find interesting about the fountain pen picture you posted is the very sharp point the nib comes to.  It might not have been the easiest pen to write with.

That was the first fountain pen. I didn't make that picture. It was a fine point. I thought it was appropriate for this sub forum.

As more and more schools drop cursive - I thought this was funny.

This is a myriad of old and new. The desk organizer I refinished; I found it in an antique store and it was in terrible shape. 1943 is the date stamp, part of me wishes I could see where it's been. Did it have a place in business? In a government war room? The pen display case is alligator and was a Valentine's Day gift from my amazing wife. Some of the pens are vintage, others are modern all are used. My pen collection is starting to compete with my razor collection. The HAND written word is an amazingly personal thing in a world where we get less personal with each passing day.

steeleshaves, you have some beautiful pens and I really like that desk organizer.

Are there a couple of Pilot Metropolitans there?  I have both a medium nib and fine nib Metropolitan.  I was sorely disappointed in the medium nib but love the fine nib; it was a smooth writer right out of the box.

Great eye Freddy!!! In the "new box" my wife got me there are two PM. I concur with your assessment I think the fine nib in this "model" is far better than the medium nib. I'm also not a big fan of the standard converter they come with, both have been replaced with a more "visible" variation. Honestly, the outside appearance of the PM is far superior to how they perform in my opinion. I'm not a fan of the new 50 converter for these pens either, but find them s tad better than the converter included.

Interesting thoughts on the Pilot Metropolitan nibs.

I've just acquired a Pilot MR (euro version of the Metropolitan) with medium nib. I don't have a fine to compare it with. It writes ok but not my favourite compared to other budget pens like Jinhao, Lamy, Fountain Pen Revolution. It does look great though.

The advantage of the MR compared with the Metropolitan is that it takes Standard International Cartridges and converters. Well I assume it'll take an SI converter, actually haven't tried it yet.

steeleshaves and fancontroller, when it comes to inexpensive pens that are good writiers, I remain a fan of the Nemosine Singularity.  I have several with various nib sizes (EF, .6 and .8 calligraphy) and all write beautifully.  Admittedly, the pen itself is plastic, not metal, but it is a quality plastic and I really like the style.
