When I compare WR2 to WR1 my take is with the WR2 it follows the traditional path of as the gap goes up so does the efficiency and blade feel. In SS I also find there is a more significant difference in face feel between the SB side and OC side with the OC side being not only more efficient but also not as smooth. Everything changes when you switch to Titanium WR2 head. Example when comparing a WR2 SS 1.25 DC to a Titanium DC 1.25 OC/1.35 SB the difference to me in blade and face feel is so different it’s almost like they are different razors. I love my Titanium WR2. It’s super efficient and very smooth. With that said I did not like the OC side of the SS 1.25 at all and if I were ever to buy a SS WR2 again which I probably won't it would absolutely be a SB.

Moving to the WR1 to me unlike the WR2 and most of the other modern and vintage razors in this hobby it goes completely against all the rules as I find as the blade gap goes up so does the smoothness and of course the efficiency. Example my 80 DC is not as smooth as my 86 DC which is not as smooth as my .94 custom gap DC which with the exception of the .61 DC is the smoothest and the most efficient WR1 I've ever shaved with and a complete pleasure to shave with. The 74. WR1 Titanium is also smooth and moderately efficient.

I have never shaved with any WR1 with a lower gap than a 61. So I can not offer any input on those razors.

I prefer the WR2 head in Titanium and I prefer the WR1 head in SS especially in the higher gaps.

Just my 2 cents on the subject.

Very good summation of the 2 Wolfie razors

I was just about to thank Dragonsbeard for taking the time to write that, and add that Shavemd also has said that he prefers the WR1 over the WR2. Given the low likelihood of catching a drop, I don't want to prolong this, but it is interesting to me how the WR1 can increase in smoothness as the gap goes up (on the website, the highest available gap is .86) *except* for the DC .61. There seems to be no substitute for actually test-driving different configurations of the WR1 and WR2, which isn't going to happen - so reading the shaveoffs and this thread will have to suffice - I'm seeing why he still makes both WR1s and WR2s - very strong advocates of each on this thread!
Thanks again!

You are right. There is no substitute for test driving different razors and gaps until you find the one that's just right for you. This is a difficult task with Wolfman razors since it's not easy to get one and even if you did there is no 30 day trial period where if you didn't like it you could trade it in for a different razor head or gap change so unfortunately you have to either go by what input you get on the wet shaving forums from members which can be all over the darn place and make things even more confusing or just go with your gut instinct. One thing you can also do is tell us what razors you have gotten your best shaves with up till now. That would help me try to offer my advice on what WR1 or WR2 would work best for you.

Thanks for that - I tried to do that in my post on the previous page:

I do understand that these are all different razors - I don't think I'd want anything more aggressive than the CG level 2 - in fact, truth be told, my favorite razor so far is the Paradigm SE - have not had a problematic shave with it yet...

And I don't mean at all to sound ungrateful or frustrated - reading these posts, your shaveoffs, DanLaw's recent review of the wolfies - it's been enormously helpful - and I'm not convinced I'm good/experienced enough to tell subtle differences among the various WM choices :-)

Paradigm is a nicely efficient razor and smooth so I can understand why you like it so much. So not any more efficient than a CG Level 2 says a lot as well. Although I find the way a CG shaves compared to a WR1 or WR2 very different from one another my initial thoughts are either a WR2 DC 1.15 OC/1.15 but only in a Titanium and not an SS would probably be my first choice if I were recommending a razor for you without talking to you over the phone and getting more info.

Thank you - that's really helpful - and from your posts the titanium seems to be a completely different razor than the SS - but being able to get it through the drop, it's still much less than the SS on Ebay, or even here on BST, so the DC 1.15/1.15 in titanium is now the frontrunner :-)
It's good to be in touch, Dragonsbeard - again, I do appreciate the time that you (and others) take to help other on this forum understand nuances of these razors - thank you! Ian

My pleasure sir!

The Ti 1.15 works great for me as a daily driver. At the time only Ti was available. So I chose the highest gap that I thought I could handle.

That's helpful to know, David - thanks!
