Wolfman WR1 gap advice please

What would be the WR1 equivalent (in terms of efficiency and blade feel) to a 30's Gillette NEW long comb ?

My name should come soon and I'm still trying to figure out for which one to go (WR1 or WR2?, gap ?)
At moment I'm heading towards a WR1 0.80 OC....

I think the standard Wolfman gap of 0.61 will give just as much efficiency as a NEW LC. I've had 0.61, 0.67, 0.74, 0.8, and 0.86, and 0.80 is a LOT more efficient than a NEW. 0.74 is probably my all around favorite, not much more blade feel than the 0.61 or 0.67, but a good step up in efficiency. The 0.80 is a tiny bit more efficient than the 0.74, but I'm not sure if the slight loss in comfort is worth it.

OK, so if I want something a bit more efficient than the NEW, a 0.74 seems to be it.

Compared to the NEW and the R41, where does the 0.80 falls? closer to the R41 ?

I've never tried the R41, but I doubt the 0.80 is that aggressive. The 0.80 is super comfortable and usable with good prep, it has present blade feel, but not scary at all. The 0.86 has quite noticeable blade feel, a lot more than the 0.80 IMO, but still not exactly scary.

The R41 competes in the .94 range, and maybe exceeds it.

So an .80 is closer to the .74.

Like I said in the WR2 thread, here are my impressions of my WR1 .48

WR1. 48 SB
WRH2 and WRH3 handles

I've sampled a few WR1 gaps, .54 DC, .61 OC, .80 OC and now the .48 SB. I like mild razors and my favourite non-Wolfman razor is the Tatara Masamune. If I you enjoy milder razors with reduced blade exposure you will love this Wolfman gap. It is very comfortable, incredibly smooth during the shave. I'd say smoother than the Masamune, although the Tatara does have a totally different finish. Tatara is negative exposure in the standard configuration and the WR1 .48 is just positive.

Masamune -0.13
WR1 .48 +0.02
WR1 .54, .61, .67 +0.10

This Wolfman gap is incredibly smooth on the ATG pass (all passes really) and quite different to the .54 SB, i.e. a jump in smoothness and less blade feel. I know some say the .48 and .54 are pretty much identical but I can definitely tell the difference. Of course the efficiency is not the same as the .54 and absolutely not like the .80. If you have good technique this is not a problem. Buffing and extra passes are no issue. No irritation. Very little blade feel if any. This is a daily shaver without a doubt. I tried it on 24-48-72 hours growth and had no real issues. I can use the .54 on 4 days growth without a problem but rarely go that long between shaves.

I tested it with a few handles. WRH2 90mm solid was heavy and made it easy to apply unwanted pressure but the hollow 80mm was just too light. The hollow handle makes it even lighter than my Masamune. However the WRH3 was perfect for weight and balance. I want to try a solid 80mm WRH1 or 2 for comparison next.

Tried a few blades that work well for me in the Wolfman. GSB, Wizamet and Personna Med Prep.

This is not a high efficiency razor but I wanted something for quick daily shaves. I can make 4 passes if I needed with zero discomfort.

That’s on my Next List .48DC hope will be smooth compared to .54DC even tho .54 was not that bad..

Just received my Wolfman dual comb .94 bronze. Did a wonderful 3 pass shave on 3 days beard growth. Awesome smooth shave. Wife approved BBS. I sold my SS .94 awhile ago but I must say this razor stands alone for a wonderfully smooth efficient shave. I used ETHOS Greenfresh soap and Post shave serum for a wonderful Friday night shave.

I shaved with one of these. It was an interesting shave less scary than I was expecting. Kind of like an extreme open comb for me. I admire the creativity!
