I was wondering if there is any consensus on whether OC is really smoother than SB as I have read this a few times and I kind feel the same way.  For this morning's shave, I compared them left to right, and, particularly ATG, I found the OC to be ever so slightly smoother. What I also noticed is that the SB seems to be more efficient, to the point of it being ever so slightly uncomfortable ATG under the chin.

So, in short. Does anyone else find the OC to be smoother than SB in the same gap? What about efficiency?

My experience is the same as Dan Law's. SB is smoother, while the OC is slightly more efficient by a hair (pun intended)  Smile Currently in WR-1 I've got a DC .74, OC .86, and DC .94.

Knowing what I know now if I was buying my first WR-1 I'd probably go DC .86 ... or .74.

FWIW I feel the same with the WR2, Blackbird, Karve, Charcoal Goods ... that the SB is smoother. YMMV.

I've tried 1.05, 1.25, and 1.55 in WR2, all SB. The only WR1 I've tried, which I still have, is 0.61 OC. I have a 0.67 OC coming today, but I'd love to try a 0.74 at some point, particularly titanium.

The first Wolfman I ever ordered was a .74 DC Titanium, at the time it was the most aggressive razor James said he would make, how times have changed. I still use the .74 as it is very smooth and gives an excellent shave. I agree with the comments above that the SB side of all my razors Is slightly smoother than its counterpart in OC.

So far I'm thinking my WR1 is smoother with the OC side. Maybe I need to try more blades. Would likely go for a full OC next time round.

Thank you gentlemen for your helpful insights about SB vs OC. I shall switch sides tomorrow and see how that goes. I am leaning towards SB anyway as I have quite a few OC razors in my small collection.

One more question if I may. I have a .74 OC of my own. Would it make sense to get a .80 SB, or would there be no real increase in efficiency vs the .74 oc?

I just received a DC WR1 .86 last week and agree with you 100%.  I love the razor and gap but would opt for the full OC if I order again.

I used the 0.67 this morning and to me it felt nearly identical to the 0.61. A tiny efficiency advantage, trouble spots were smooth with less work, but the blade feel was nearly identical to me. I guess I do need to try the 0.74.

Well, that's because .54, .61 and .67 have the same exposure.

I got the DC really to try out both SB and OC. Considering trading for the full .54 OC baseplate.

.86 must have quite a bit of blade feel.

Thanks for the info on the .67.  I sold my .61 OC and I'm going to order another WR1.  I was debating on a .67 or .74.  I'm thinking I'll go with the .74 now.  I liked the .61, but I would like just a little more blade feel and efficiency.
