Supposedly the wr1 has less blade exposure than the wr1 .54 and .61 I think??

Imagine a line running from the outer edge of the baseplate to the top cap (basically the parts of the razor touching your face during a stroke). Exposure is the amount the razor blade crosses this line.
A WR1 with a gap of 0.86 delivers a wildly aggressive shave, whilst the WR2 with a 0.85 gap is considered to be on the mild side. This difference comes purely from the difference in exposure.
I have had a few WR1 razors over the years and whilst I loved the efficiency, I always ended up selling them because they were just a bit too aggressive, particularly ATG. I think I would take the 0.54 DC now if I were to purchase again. Don‘t be mistaken, it is still a very efficient razor. Also in a way adjustable as you can use the OC side for the reduction pass and use the SB side from then on.
Many here are using high gapped WR2 razors around 1.45 or 1.55. Don’t understand it myself as I found the 1.15 to be very effective. I would be very curious to try a 1.05 now.
If you find a gap that suits you perfectly without having to buy and sell several times, consider yourself very lucky.
Take a look at the Guerrilla for another alternative. Maybe the 2 plate stainless option for a bit of variety.
I re-read your post. I agree many not just here but everywhere lots of people are getting higher gaped wr2. At what point does it become a potato peeler and not a shaver. I must be in the minority, I cannot handle large gapped razors, especially atg the blade wants to snag the hair and not slice it . I even read of guys using wr2 1.55 at a steep angle. How could one go atg on the mustache at a 1.55 gap and at a steep angle, i will never understand?! Thats why its a ymmv....

My skin is tough, coarse beard, been wet shaving for decades, and I like to do full three passes - and for me, the blades that work with my razors, my shave angles, and face structure, the 'mild' heads are more pleasurable and I don't have to be careful. I can manage more efficient razors but i must be tuned in with my pressure, my jaw bone angle, etc. Find what you like and use it! I woefully have discovered that the WR1 heads are not favored by my preferences and predilections - The WR2 95 probably would have been better for me. I have no trouble with the WR1 .54 Dual Comb. It's a YMMV thing I guess. Never have tried a WR2.....

It is the exposure that does me in. I think my shaving angle is better suited for neutral exposure heads. I don't get comfortable shaves with the wr1. Got to lessen my angle I reckon.

I certainly wasn't challenging ya Daddy. Just adding another perspective. Sounds like the WR2 may be a great razor as well. Problem is it's a steep blind buy. Wish I had one to loan you to know if it's a fit for ya !
