What soap/cream did you use today?

Rose (Martin de Candre) dusty rose

I figure I’ve got about a year’s worth of shaves left in this beat-up tub of Rose. I’ve used it infrequently because, well, I didn’t really like the smell. That is, until last night, when the wind shifted from the mountains to the sea and I caught a whiff of citrusy florals that I somehow missed up until now. Odd how the nose works. It sees Rose on the label and then blocks out any other notes. It wasn’t until I was sitting there in the dark room that the tart parts came to my attention.

The little bottle of oil next to the soap is a mystery to me. It came to me gratis from Anthony Marmin with the purchase of a couple other vials of oud oil. For some reason, he didn’t label his gift. Thanks to the lack of a label, I’m forced to rely solely on my schnoz to sort it out. It smells of rose, jasmine, and ‘white oud’ … nice, completely inoffensive, and the ideal stocking stuffer for a nine-year old girl.
