I shave every other day. My shaves are almost exclusively in the evening, before bed. Today, on a somewhat laxidasical morning, I was taking stock of my shave gear. I had just recently gotten a tub of Long Rifle Soap, Hunting Lodge.
It's supposed to be leather, Bay Rum, and tobacco. I'm not certain what scents I pick up from this soap. I can definitely catch a hint of bay in the background, but the leather and tobacco blend into something odd and different. All in all, The scent is nice albeit very very (very very very) light.
I have used the soap once before. As I said the scent is very light, which is a little unappealing. However, the performance is way up there... Very slick and hydrating.
Now, when the soap arrived it was a soft soap "puck" floating in a tin container. Looking at it, I decided my only option was to press it in. I don't like to do this, as I don't want a meddle with the pristine condition of a soap.
With it all secured into the dish, I thought " Since I've already mangled it, I wonder if this would be a good soap to keep strictly for face lathering?
On a whim I pulled out my Omega S brush, which I haven't used in a while. After about 20 seconds of loading, I whipped up a nice dry lather on the brush and slowly added water and applied it to my face. Using my Rockwell 6s on r4 I proceeded to shave (normally I'm an r2 user, but I wanted to test the bounds of this soaps slickness).
Wow, is all I can say. What a joy. I was again greeted with a great shave from this little, nearly scentless, puck.
I don't know that I'll keep it for only face lathering, but it was a fun shave on a nice Saturday morning. Different and joyful.
