I'm doing a Keto diet, so everything I like to eat for breakfast is pretty much not allowed anymore. I'm learning how to cook all over again. But that quiche looks delicious and I bet I can eat that. BTW, very little appetite on Keto. The fats seem to suppress the appetite.

My best to you for the Keto diet, Brian. We are starting a modified South Beach diet, for my wife's benefit and with me just tagging along. We have done it before, and my appetite stays well controlled due to the frequent (but small quantity) food intake.

Breakfast is the most difficult meal for me on keto. Today was easy though. After warming up some home grown ham steak I sauteed in ghee (from grass fed cows) some green pepper, onion, then added 2 scrambled hen fruit.

My ketone test strips tell me that I'm barely in ketosis after 2 weeks. I wonder when it hits big time? But I'm losing weight and that's my goal. I want to lose an additional 40 pounds and I was no longer losing just by cutting back. I miss carbs more than anyone can imagine. Heck, one of the things I do (or did) is bake.

Keto strips can be of limited usefulness. What happens when you first go on keto is that your body can't consume the ketones that are being produced, so it ends up as a waste product. Once your body gets used to them, that number goes down. As long as you are tracking your carb intake to be low, and generally watch calories, you are probably in better shape than you think.

Eggs and meat are my staple for breakfast, sometimes I make a scramble by adding spinach and peppers. Usually throw a little cheese on as well. Maybe a bit boring but it seems to work.

Try Julian Bakery's Pro Granola...its keto and paleo friendly...

Insomniac, I know I'm in keto' because I went through keto flu and I'm losing weight, but the test strips definitely had me wondering. Your explanation makes sense. Me too on my breakfast staples... eggs, cheese, and meat are my top contenders.

Thanks for the tip on Julians Tester28. I'll need to order it but I can do that. I see Amazon has it. I examined the label on line and it looks good.

Too many carbs this AM. I had some plain whole milk Greek yogurt but added some carb based granola to it for crunch and flavor. Then had some meat. I've been finding myself grazing for breakfast when I don't have a plan. The hens need to start laying more frequently (we actually need new hens). I really dislike store bought eggs and won't buy them.

For Greek yogurt, there's a brand called Two Good which only has 2g of sugar (3g total 'net carbs') per cup; it's pretty good.

I've run through half a dozen bags of their vanilla cinnamon cluster...mixed with silk unsweetened almond milk it's really good...like all things keto, a bit pricey but a huge bag...
as you don't eat so much at a time, it's fairly decent value.

Yesterday morning my son and I went for breakfast because it was cleaning lady day, which means we have to leave the house so they can clean. We go to a local diner that I like. My favorite breakfast is two eggs over easy, multi-grain toast and I treated myself to some bacon. I would also like to have a half grapefruit with it but it doesn't go well with my blood pressure meds. Oh, and a nice cup of coffee. This morning I just had a cup of coffee with some blueberry yogurt and a glass of OJ to wash down the meds an supplements.

I'm buying one bag each of the 3 flavors that I found.

I make my own nut milk that is better tasting than anything I've ever bought and actually has substantial nutrition. Here it is: https://damnfineshave.com/thread-recipe-...substitute

To reduce the carbs leave out the medjool date (before keto I used 2 dates). FWIW, now I also add 3 brazil nuts, a bunch of macadamia, and 1/3 cup of flaked coconut. All amounts are fluid and can be changed depending on your preference and what is in the cupboard. The key are the cashews, but feel free to make it your mix. Is it like cows milk? No. If you want a cows milk taste it needs to come from an udder. I might consider adding some MCT oil to it next time I make it and cross fingers in hope that it emulsifies. I don't know if it's in the recipe, but you want nuts with the the brown skin intact. The brown skin has substantial anti-oxidants; yes, it will discolor the product, but it's about nutrition and flavor and not about trying to make white faux milk.
