Wow, you people amaze me. I've just read this thread and I have some observations.

First off, Mo stole some artwork, that was, then it turns out it really wasn't, copyrighted. So it was an issue that's really not an issue at all. But some people still are mad about it even though he can rightfully use the image without issue. The estate of the former artist doesn't appear bothered by the label, not that they'd be able to do anything about it's use. The maker volunteered to change the label even though he doesn't have to because some are offended. Personally I'd have told those people to piss off and used the label as is, it's completely legal to do so.

All said and done, some that have used his soaps don't really care about the label and would use the soap regardless. The maker's soaps are so good that some don't care if there were no label or just some sharpie writing on the tub. The one most irritated by this issue (that turns out to be a non issue) didn't in fact actually purchase the soap but feels a strong need to safeguard the rest of us. From what we're being protected from, I haven't figured that out yet.

Second, whoever put the Veritas label on the soap pump, ok that was kinda funny because the soap arrived uncured and was soupy. I get it. I do wonder if any copyrights were violated in using the image in this regard but I guess it's ok because the image isn't actually copyrighted anymore. I'm sure the original artist would be honored.

To address the soupy soap issue. In terms of the soap not curing fast enough and getting sent a bit early goes, I'm not surprised that the maker sent it given the backlash he would have gotten had someone's soap arrived a week late. Every time a Grooming Dept order gets sent out late it's some kind of conspiracy where they're trying to cheat someone, yet I have yet to meet anyone who has actually been cheated thus far. Quite the opposite in fact. So a decision was made to send the soap in hopes that it finished curing completely during transit. In hind sight this was a bad decision and the maker apologized for it. I'm sure he won't make the same costly mistake again.

An apology is never enough, so what is the penalty that the maker should endure, aside from some images of soup cans with Veritas on the label? My experience with this maker is that any issues that have arisen have always been dealt with in a generous manner and those who have supposedly been wronged seem to have very nice things to say.

The self imposed penalty was as follows:
The maker offered a full refund or a replacement soap and either way you keep the original one that would harden up once the curing was finished.
So you either get a full refund or a new replacement soap sent to you and either way you keep the free soap that needs a bit more time to cure.

What did this cost the vendor to do? I suspect that money was lost on the entire batch of soap as the replacements cost the maker in new labels, new tubs, new materials, the time to make the new soap, the time to adhere the new labels, the time to pack the orders, the postage cost, the time to mail out the replacements and process all of the orders. Not to mention the missed opportunity cost where the maker could have been making a profitable item to sell. I suspect that it cost more money to replace these soaps than it would have to just issue a full refund to everyone that bought the soap.

From my standpoint as a consumer this is a best case solution as opposed to a coupon for something off the next order and the instruction to wait it out a bit longer, which surely would have been an option for the maker.

As far as I can tell everyone that ordered the soap is happy with the resolution. The only people who are dissatisfied are those who didn't actually purchase the soap and need something to complain about.

What more do you guys want? What is a reasonable resolution that would make those, who didn't actually buy the soap and are just looking for something to bitch about, happy?

I have not had the time to continue reading some of the nonsense coming from people that didn’t even purchase Veritas. The comments trying to tear down GD and Mo’s artisanship are completely uncalled for and if you don’t like GD products or anything else, just don’t buy it and stay off of the forums that are associated with it. It is one thing to offer some criticism but then to start attacking and calling names is way beyond what is appropriate. Move on and let those that want to talk about the performance of the actual product post their thoughts.

Agreed with the previous 2 posts. I PIF the old tub to the guy that introduced me to wetshaving. I look forward to the revised soap and I am glad Mo made it right. I for one, will continue to use, purchase and recommend GD products. Also, Sni Mato by DG is an excellent post shave scent for Veritas.

If this thread has done anything for me, it’s solidified the following:

-Mo makes mistakes. Sometimes it’s delays in shipping. Sometimes it’s shipping an uncured soap.

-Mo goes out of his way to fix the mistakes, makes everyone whole, and most importantly, learns from his mistakes.

-He values his customers feedback, experiences, and support. His character and the way he’s handled himself in this forum in the face of pure rudeness is exemplary.

-Despite me personally being upset with him in the past for delays in shipping, I will continue to support him. Why? The way he’s handled himself in this very thread.

Now I’m headed back over to B&B where we all don’t always get along, but we all share mutual respect for each other and civility prevails.

Mistakes will happen from time to time. If anything this thread shows that when Mohammad has an issue with one of his products that he goes out of his way to ensure that his customers are satisfied. It's nice when a vendor provides exceptional service to resolve an issue.

So Mo, you Sir deserves a cookie for your exceptional resolution to a problem that you encountered. I believe that everyone is satisfied with the steps you've taken to resolve the issue. The only people you can't seem to satisfy are the ones who aren't actually customers.

Thank you dfoulk Unfortunately, I can't eat cookies, I have Celiac, GF cookies are unpalatable. Incidentally, I'm about to make this, but I'll serve it in Pyrex bowls Smile Also, notice how he uses lecithin, which is in all of Grooming Dept soaps!

I'm gonna pass on that desert. Maybe just too fancy for me but I'm thinking it would be like eating dish soap. Interesting to watch the video though.
