Thoughts on House of Mammoth?

Will, you continue to impress the hell out of me. It means a lot that you enjoyed the Mood Indigo trifecta, and went so far as to share those comments in a public forum.  I've been a fan and supporter of Barrister & Mann since I got into the hobby, so this is really special to hear.

Thanks so much! Every word is deserved and earned, Ben. It's really excellent work. That fruity musk note at the bottom (which reminds me of Auranone, not that I'm asking) is a perfect finish to the whole fragrance. Just lovely.

I haven't used Auranone, but I love fruity musks (see: Embrace). Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for this WeeScott  - I'll check it out on Youtube - I'm only able to find a single episode of the The RazorBurn on apple podcasts - one with Max Sprecher.  Not sure what's going on.  Maybe they only did one podcast and decided to go video on YouTube .

Ok, I listened to the episode on YouTube. Not sure why I couldn’t get that as an audio only podcast but ok. Yeah that was quite the grumble session, while Ben was fairly candid in his comments, he wasn’t quite as blunt. Interesting for sure.

Did we grumble? I honestly haven't watched it and don't remember that well. Sorry to hear that we were off-putting; sometimes, it's easy to get caught in the idea of "honesty" and go a little over-board.

I'm to see this thread because I was wondering about Mammoth soap Tusk. 
  Sounds like it's pretty nice soap with a nice soap with a great post shave. 
   I don't know if there's enough of it out find out people's favorite scents?

I’ve only tried Hygge and Mood Indigo and find them to be a soft, subtle and very nice but they are very similar so I’d say pick one or the other. I’m hoping to be able to comment on Almond and Leather scent shortly. Ordinarily I’m not a leather fan but Ben has such a light hand with the fragrances that I figured I’d take a chance. I haven’t tried any others

Agreed that Mood Indigo is excellent and the Tusk base equally so. I purchased the full set after someone suggested that we do a blueberry oud fragrance. I had no idea that Mood Indigo incorporated those features, so I ordered some in order to make sure that I don't step on Ben's toes if I opt to experiment with the idea. It's wonderful stuff.

Hi Will, you guys weren't off-putting but it was candid to be sure - I think its good to be candid but I think when there are three of you it can possibly be a little much.  Too be fair, I'd rather hear you be candid than to listen to artisans gush about how wonderful everything is when you know its just not all sunshine and roses.  I don't recall the Lather Talk episode that was but I know I didn't listen to the whole episode.  I probably could have used better phrasing than "grumble session" like "candid"   

I thought you already had a blueberry noted soap but I might be wrong.  I have so many of your awesome creations that I lose track.  Have you ever thought about a blueberry and coffee scent?  I say that because of an incredible blueberry Harrar Ethiopian coffee I bought and roasted several years ago from Sweet Marias - such blueberry notes in a coffee are unusual and I've been searching since then to find more but it just isn't there.  I picked up  some Burundi beans from Sweet Marias recently that comes close though.

Ah, okay, that's fair. I try to be candid when I can: as you commented, it's tiring to hear that everything in sunshine and rainbows, especially when it's very clearly not.

On the blueberry subject, no, we've never done one, but I don't want to clog up a thread about House of Mammoth products with a discussion of what we might do in the future. I simply dropped in to say that I think that both the Tusk base and Mood Indigo are fabulous, and I am extremely satisfied with all aspects of the soap, balm, and cologne.

I like grumbling, for what that's worth. Grumble away, Will!

I mean, we are humans making these products, and not some soulless corporation. If you want less humanity from the makers of your shave goods, go with something made by robots and sold at a national chain store. 

Hi mammothben , I didn't know you were here on DFS so welcome.  I'm glad you posted on this thread.  When I started the thread I had just listened to the Lather Talk podcast featuring House of Mammoth but I hadn't actually tried your soap yet but now that I have tried both Hygge and Mood Indigo I can say (and I did) that I'm very impressed.  I have to admit that it crossed my mind that the blending of scent in Hygge and Mood Indigo made me think of Barrister and Mann.  Not as a copy but in that they are masterfully done in the way Barrsiter and Mann scents are masterfully done.  Anyone who's been around wet shaving for any length of time knows that scent is hard to do well and both you and Will do it very well indeed. Thank you.

Its funny that you say that because thats what came across very strongly on the podcast, humanity.  I laughed when you talked about your experience with Columbia House CD of the month club.  Been there.  Of course they're collecting dust in the basement.

I have a very large collection of soaps (something like 190) from about 100 different soap formulations. When I started to read reviews of the Mammoth Tusk formula, I had to see what all the fuss was about. I purchased the Mood Indigo scent. I love both the scent and the performance of the soap. I include Tusk in my top ten list of super-elite soap bases. To be super elite a soap has to give a superb shave (near BBS with zero irritation of my sensitive skin) and also provide post shave conditioning that lasts a minimum of 16 hours after the shave. Mammoth Tusk formula will do that. So far, I have found only ten soap formulas that will provide those benefits. I was amazed that a newcomer to the shave soap market would be able to make a soap that good.
