Feather Hi-Stainless.  Regardless the razor, Feather is the blade that gives me the closest shave.

Wizamets have dethroned my previous favorite Perma Sharp, although the choice is still razor dependent.

Hi there,

For me personally, I either prefer the Big Ben or Super Max blades. I have tried the various other blades and these are my to go one. What is your favorite blade that you would recommend? Thanks.

DE razor blades are one of the most subjective aspects of the hobby. Someone with a coarse beard needs a very sharp blade while those with fine beards can get by with a less sharp blade. Those with very sensitive skin need a blade that is very smooth while those whose skin is tough can use a less smooth blade. I have a heavy coarse beard and sensitive skin. I can only use a blade for 3-4 shaves at most. There are some guys who can get 100 shaves from a blade. Their beard and skin must be a lot different than mine. Also, different blades work best in different razors. I love super sharp blades in a mild razor, but I would not dare using the same blades in an aggressive R41. Since my beard, skin, and collection of razors will be different than yours, it won't really help you to know which blades I like best.

I suspect your beard and skin are much different than mine. From the reviews I have seen on Big Ben blades (made by Lord), they are neither sharp enough or smooth enough for me. I can't even use Astra Superior Platinum blades, which are favorites of many people. I do like Astra Superior Stainless blades. If you have not tried Astra SP blades, I suggest you do so. If Big Ben works for you, Astra SP should as well.

I have used Shark Platinum blades also made by Lord and find them to be very good blades that work well in some of my razors, but they are not my favorites.

SuperMax makes a wide range of blades, so saying you like SuperMaxblades is not an adequate description. I have used SuperMax Blue Diamond Platinum blades and find them to be quite good. They are both sharp and smooth, so they work well for me.

For my face and beard, my favorite blades are BIC Chrome Platinum, Gillette Nacet, Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum Black, Personna Platinum Chrome (Israeli Reds), and Dorco Prime Platinum STP301. These are all super sharp blades, but I suspect they are far sharper than you need.

To learn more about various razor blades, I suggest you take a look at the Refined Shave web site:

https://www.refinedshave.com/razor-blade...s-summary/

Thee method used for testing blades is considered controversial by some, but I find that my experience with about two dozen different blades parallels the site results. Be sure to read the full description of any blades in which you are interested. Unfortunately, the author has not tested any blades recently, so there are some blades I have used that are not on the site.

I suggest you get a sampler pack that contains a dozen different tucks of each brand of blade. Some samplers contain only one or two of each blade. If a blade simply does not work for you then 1 or 2 blade may be sufficient if you only have one razor. However, if you have multiple razors, you need to try each of the blades in several razors to see how it performs in each of them.

Emperor of Shaving
Very subjective category. Used to be Feather but dethroned by Polsilver Stainless (brown pack). Wizamets and Feather a close second.

Gillette Platinum is the best in all categories for me. Smoothness and longevity of an Astra, sharpness of Feather, not too expensive.

Polsilver SI and KAI for me depending on the razor. KAI didn’t work in Wolfman WR2 for me
