Thanks for all the suggestions guys!  I decided to give the Zenith a try but am very tempted to order a SOC from Your Shaving.  Also, I know there is a method/technique of freezing (????) the knot a couple times to break it in quicker.  But I want to break it in using the more traditional method of just using it so I can see how it evolves over time.

Was able to get the 1st use in today.  Although there is a some "stink" to it, it is no where near as bad as the Omega

I haven't posted in this thread for quite awhile.  Although my intentions to "hide" most of my gear while trying to use up some soaps came with good intentions, I really fell off the wagon over the past 2.5 months.  (It was all the SALES that got me!)  So, I spent a portion of the past weekend pulling out all the gear and arranging them in my closet.  Seeing 3 shelves full of soap really reinforces why i tried to finish some off.  Then again, taking my sweet time to rearrange everything was like Christmas morning as a kid...i can't wait to dive into all these soaps over the next few months!

The only thing for certain is this: no matter what you decide to do with all your soaps – squirrel them away or proudly display them – you'll eventually start thinking that the other way is better. Big Grin Have a great time sorting through your collection and revisiting old friends!

Now lemme ask a question, not only to you HoosierShave, but to anyone reading this thread: does posting regularly to the soap-of-the-day thread make it hard not to use a different soap each day? In other words, do you feel compelled to rotate through a heap of soaps just to have something new to share each morning? Would it be easier to finish off a puck if you weren't posting?

I post what I'm using and enjoy variety. Always have. When I have done a run with a soap, I still post it. I don't think there is a pressure just because I'm posting that I need a different one each day. But that's just me and I'm an Oddball.....

Bouki, for me, posting to the SotD thread doesn't make much of difference whether i use one soap for many shaves or a new soap each day.  The primary reason I use a lot of different soaps and rarely use them for consecutive days is because I enjoy the variety.  And, as you know, variety exists not only in the scents but the lather qualities as well.

The SotD thread on DFS is one of the greatest threads in our community.  But that's in large part because of the participants and how respectful they are of each other.  When I was burning through 3 months of MdC last year, no one made disparaging remarks (or at least I wasn't smart enough to recognize the remarks as such Smile ).  And no one cares if someone uses a homemade concoction of tallow/honey/bentonite/Irish Spring bar mixed with lavender EO or a $50+ artisan soap.  It's all good (although i would rather not try the concoction Smile )

I also know there is a big difference between you and I when it comes to the SofD thread.  Your narratives on various soaps/scents/books/etc (along with several other members niches) are one of life's great little pleasures for many of us on that thread.  Personally, I am not much of a writer and am truly in awe of how you are able to do it day in and day out.  And I know I'm not the only who feels that way.  Honestly, you deserve a lot of credit for building that thread to what it is today because so many members visit it on a daily basis just to read your thoughts on a soap/scent.  Having said that, I would think that it would be a significant challenge if you were to use and write about one soap for an extended period of time.  I'm sure there are many out there who wouldn't even when i stick with one soap for days on end.  But your posts, members notice

Would it be easier to finish off a puck if I weren't posting? I'm not sure about that one.  But if I weren't visiting DFS everyday and spending some time on the forum, then yes, I think so.  But that's because I highly doubt I would have anywhere near the number of soaps i've accumulated over the past 7 years...and that wouldn't be any fun Smile
