Suggestions for a light moisturizing balm

I have a friend who's an esthetician and many years ago she reccomended a product that I've been using for years. It's from a company called G.M. Collin and it's 'Rosa Sea Gel-Cream'.

I would occasionally get a rosacea type breakout on my neck after shaving. I haven't had that happen since I started using this cream. A dab about the size of a little fingernail rubbed into your fingertips and applied to your whole face after shaving and your done. No fragrance, so there's no interferene with your cologne. A 1.7 oz tube lasts forever.

Where do you buy yours?

I know you wanted something light out if the bottle, but don't discount a tallow moisturizer.

Check out! @"landlgrooming" aftershave liniment. It applies thick, but a small amount will do it and absorbs very quickly to a non greasy feel.

Nice suggestion. Maybe the bandwagon or original would be light enough scent?

I wanted to see if I could get suggestions for a balm that could go with a variety of soaps. Here's where I'm at:

I've been having some skin reactions to certain scents/formulas of both soaps and aftershaves. I'm still trying to pin down what it could be definitively. I also struggle with dry skin year round. I've used a few balms but they tend to be a little heavier than I would like, especially in the summer.

I've used Stirling and soap commander. What else can you recommend?

Hopefully I've explained what I'm looking for!

Could you tell me why you didn't like Soap Commander or Stirling? I'm just trying to get a feel for your use case. I love Soap Commander and Stirling.

Lots of folks have recommended Nivea and if you have normal to dry skin that might be my suggestion as well. I have DRY skin, so the Nivea did not work for me at all in fact, my skin got tight after using a couple variants.

It's the only balm I know that has tallow in the ingredients. I always use this along with Chatillon Lux' toners (it's with lanolin) whenever I use a vegan soap just for my tallow fix. I am a balm guy and this is definitely one of my favorites.

I've only used one Soap Commander balm. The consistency seemed fine but the scent fragrance bothered me. I simply haven't tried another one after that. For a Stirling, it just seemed a little heavier than I expected. I might have used too much but it felt closer to a body butter consistency than a balm.

Have dry skin as well and also tend to sweat. So lighter is good!

That being said, I'm still listening to suggestions and I plan to try to get a good example of the suggestions in this thread. So please keep them coming!

So my favorite artisan balm is Stirling unscented. Soap Commander has an unscented as well you might like. In addition, I've tried Reef Points and I also like theirs. Are you looking for unscented balms in particular? Or do you know what scents aggravate you because I have mild scent allergies as well and sometimes I can get red faced.

Nice to meet a fellow sensitive skinned guy! I'm not sure if I can definitely pick out which fragrances in general do it. I've had some products give redness, bumps or dry/irritated skin. And if it is bad enough, I get burning almost immediately. I hesitate to write which products fall into these categories publically, because my skin is different than everyone else. However, if you'd like to compare notes, we can continue in a PM!

But yes lately I've been leaning more towards an unscented balm, partly due to sensitivities, but also that you have flexibility to match with lots of different soaps.

I'm a bit of a mess. Usually if possible as far as artisan soaps go, I try to sample them (if they aren't mass market products which usually cause me no issues). I've been burnt literally and figuratively multiple times just purchasing soap only to have it burn my face. On top of it all, like you I have dry skin which means, no alcohol aftershaves without some form of balm/moisturizer.

I'd say try Soap Commander Integrity, Reef Point Unscented, or Stirling Unscented. Cool thing about all of these, is you can order them with or without menthol. The only other balm I've tried is from Cold River Soap Works, but its an older version they don't make anymore.

The scent are pretty robust similar to the soaps....

There is an unscented liniment as well.
