I’ve had the chance to sample the XPEC aftershave balm. (Available in original and unscented.) This balm is relatively expensive, but the feeling on the skin is pretty much worth it in my book.

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

Kiehl's Post Shave Repair Gel is my all-time fave. Light, unscented, loaded with aloe and very soothing.

I agree with everyone about Nivea. Great stuff.

If you want an artisan balm with lots of natural ingredients, Soap Commander and Stirling make great unscented balms rich with plant-based oils that are very soothing.

I've never heard of Kiehl's. I'll have to look into this. Thanks for the suggestion!

Kiehl's had a cult following in New York for decades. The family-owned company made superb skin-care products that were packaged in no-frills containers. In 2000 L'Oreal bought Kiehl's, but many of the products are still great. Their Lite Flite Shave Cream for the brush is superb but with a fragrance that's medicinal. Kiehl's has lost some cachet because of the sale but the post-shave gel is the best product of its kind I've ever used.

I have a friend who's an esthetician and many years ago she reccomended a product that I've been using for years. It's from a company called G.M. Collin and it's 'Rosa Sea Gel-Cream'.

I would occasionally get a rosacea type breakout on my neck after shaving. I haven't had that happen since I started using this cream. A dab about the size of a little fingernail rubbed into your fingertips and applied to your whole face after shaving and your done. No fragrance, so there's no interferene with your cologne. A 1.7 oz tube lasts forever.

I know you wanted something light out if the bottle, but don't discount a tallow moisturizer.

Check out! @"landlgrooming" aftershave liniment. It applies thick, but a small amount will do it and absorbs very quickly to a non greasy feel.

Geo. F. Trumper's Skin Food. Might be viewed as midway between aftershave and balm. I like the Sandalwood - nice mild scent. and over-powered by strong soap scent. I use post shave - many with dry or sensitive skin use before shave also.
