My BBS arrived yesterday and I took it for a spin.

It’s puts a lot of bend on the blade and as a result the blade is locked down noticeably more secure than many of my other razors.

Based on everything I’ve read, I was expecting this razor to be pretty mild. To my surprise it was plenty aggressive, yet very smooth.

It’s way more aggressive than either of the Mamba’s. The .84 is more aggressive than the BBS, but definitely not as smooth.

I need more time with it, but my initial impression is quite favorable!

These days I am using the steel RazoRock BBS.
As expected, I found the original version with Super Knurl handle uncomfortable.

The first attempt to adjust the razor to my preferences was with the usual MR14.
Maggard Razors' aluminum handle is too light a thread.
However, the FrankenRazor Smoother is pleasant.

Then I tried the handle of the Focus Tritok.
Cumbo Milano processing is more consistent.
In fact the FrankenRazor TriSmooth is perfectly balanced.

The steel head weighs 32g. The 30g aluminum handle.
This allows me perfect control.
In fact, the curved geometry is easy and intuitive.
It offers a lot of comfort right away.
But the right angle is different than usual.
So a lighter and better balanced weight helps me.

The two razors are absolutely efficient:
  • FrankenRazor TriSmooth
(RazoRock BBS 32g / Cumbo Srl Focus Tritok Blue 30g)
  • FrankenRazor PP1489
    (Edwin Jagger DE89 29g / Maggard Razors MR14 Aluminium Handle 27g)
In three passes, they deliver a perfect and lasting result (BBS).

Wanting to find a punch, the RazoRock imposes a very angled use of the handle.
Although my backward grip allows it easily, it is not my habit.
So being consistent in controlling the right cutting angle I found it unnatural.
But that surely is a matter of practice.
Attributable to my hand.
Not to the razor.

A more objective detail is the quality / price ratio.
Both razors are very pleasant, but economically they have different orders of magnitude.
Moreover, the head of the RazoRock alone is difficult to find even in the domestic market.
In practice in Europe it is an unlikely option to say the least.

I have a Ti Baby Smooth in my “get around to selling it” drawer. My daughter stole the Mamba.

Much of my beard grows dead flat against the skin. Mild razors just glide right over it. They need more passes, and end up being more irritating.

My daily driver is a stainless Blackbird OC. I think the Blackbirds have a noticeably steep blade angle to the skin. It doesn’t feel uber-smooth while shaving, but gives me a close shave with less irritation than other razors. It does a great job of lifting and cutting instead of just gliding.

From the Razorock Instagram feed it looks like there will be an open comb plus a more aggressive base plate in a safety bar version.

A more aggressive SB would be awesome! Did they confirm that was coming soon?

I'm wondering how the AS version stacks up, cause it looks available.
I'm in for one now, bend the blade and twist my arm.

The BBS is now available with standard, A, AS and OC plates.
Since I’m a Razorock CNC machined razor FAN BOY…and was lacking a BBS…I was compelled by Satan to add a “Standard” Razorock BBS Razor (titanium handle) and an additional “A” plate to the already threatening pile of Lupos and Gamechangers.  I already own a two Lupos along with two Gamechangers…so by default, I have a stash of RR handles.
I could probably put together a good game of Jenga with all the Razorock parts!

It’s interesting…

Even if you already have a stash of Razorock handles (or others) it’s almost pointless to buy just a new RR razor head.
Razorock prices the head and base plate combination at nearly the same price as the complete razor (with the handle).
Basically, I purchased 1 complete razor and an extra base plate, and I got the titanium handle for $10.
(Compared to 1 top cap and 2 base plates, which is all I really wanted)
