I've seen this done before and tried to do a search and didn't see it here. I thought it would be fun to add it, especially since I'm on an open come kick again! I remember the last one I saw had rules about how often to use an open comb during October. I'm not too big on that, rules that is, so if you shave with an open comb razor during October and you want to post it, please do! I will start with my new Gold Fatip Grande. Let's see those open combs!!!

Well, that level of commitment isn't too onerous. I'm in!
I skipped shaving on the 1st, so an OC was called for last night.

Yeah, I don't ask for much! I really couldn't see putting any type of restrictions or requirements to post here. The one that I had been a part of was like 50% of your shaves had to be with open combs and sometimes I got a new razor and I wanted to try it, or I just felt like using something else. I just want people to post their open homes in here if they want, and just have fun. That's all I ask.

Sorry, I am not in. I am using my Karve SB C-plate razor to evaluate a number of razor blades. This has occupied me for a while now and will continue for a while longer.

In my normal shaving procedure, I use an open comb (Parker 24C) for my 1st pass WTG. However, I never use an OC for subsequent passes.

My Karve is one of many reasons I don't commit to "requirements" for this thread about frequency of usage. I have 2 SB-E plate razors and use them too much. I'm enjoying the evaluations and you must maintain consistency!!! Carry on!!!

SOTN OCtober 3, MMXXIII

prep - shower with Caprina Fresh Goat’s Milk with Shea Butter bar soap
razor - Gillette Long-Comb New
blade - Astra SS (7)
brush - refurbed Rubberset
soap - Fendrihan "Aloe Water" cream (almost gone)
post - warm water rinse, DSA “Pure & Natural” alum, cold water rinse
aftershave - Reuel
music - Spotify "Shoegaze Classics" playlist

I'd say this is my favourite vintage OC. (TBH, I only have three of them to compare.)

This razor had the not-uncommon split half-way up the hollow handle tube. I cut up a piece of an aluminum pen barrel and glued it in with epoxy, letting it cure under gentle pressure from a bench vise.
Oops - I had it turned with the crack visible in the photo.  Blush

Gillette Single-ring Old, one of the later models.
This is my least-favourite OC because it feels rougher than the others, but that night it wasn't too bad.

Just Here for the Shaves
Williamsburg, KY
Friday October 6, 2023
Razor: Wolfman SS WR1 .54 DC/WRH2 Ti Handle
Blade: Wizamet
Brush: Knothead "Kentuckian"/Timberwolf
Soap: Abbate Y La Mantia "Blue Tobacco"
AS : Barbasol Pacific Rush
Fragrance:
Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 1,795

Another Soap from the House of Tommy and I believe a never used brand to me but can't remember. Here's what is stated about it on the web:

We soaked balsamic tobacco leaves in icy ocean waters. How? A fragrance of tobacco and eucalyptus bathed in the cold mint molecule (D-menthol).

In order to make this a tropical cosmetic, we added Avocado oil. To make this precious, we added the ultimate natural antibacterial agent: Saffron Pistil Extract.

What I note: The Saffron Pistil comes in dead last on the ingrediant list so I don't imagine there's a lot of it in there but it makes for good advertising Big Grin The scent I get is a nice Cold Aguatic. When you smell the tub it isn't offensive menthol but you smell that it's a cooling soap and the fresh aquatic scent is there but I'm not able to distinguish the individual notes they describe. All that said I enjoyed using it and upon smelling it, I immediately knew the perfect AS to go with it would be from my stash of Pacific Rush which is down to a half bottle I'm working on and 1 full backup. This vegan soap gave a great lather and shave. My face feels clean and refreshed. I will definitely enjoy using this soap but I wouldn't buy it at it's price point of more than $12 an ounce. There are better quality soaps priced lower. Like I said it's a great soap to enjoy but that's my honest opinion on it's value. I hope all have a great day !
