OliWorks Razors

My free Oliworks Classic Steel arrived yesterday - Thanks Jorge for sending one my way.

Let me start with the criticisms first.
I'm really been super critical when I say this, I found one machine mark that is not fully polished out and it's in a place where it does not matter.
There are other US manufactured adjustable razors that cost more than double the price and are full of machining marks.

From a user perspective - I prefer the bars to be the same. (From a collectors perspective its the opposite position)
I would prefer to be able to dismantle it - YES so that I can overclock it.
I don't find enough contrast between the finish and the engraving.

The positives are
The packaging is great in both looks and function.
From a collectors point - I love the different bars. What other Gibbs style adjustable has them!!
Mine has absolutely no alignment issues and I've tried very hard to get it to misalign.
The tension on my adjuster dial is fine and its certainly enough to keep a setting during a shave.
The knurling is great.
US made at a Chinese price - At the $150 price point its great value for money.

Onto the first shave
As always I start at the midpoint and dial up or down depending on what I feel on that stroke.
I dialed it up to 4, relathered the small area and completed the first pass. I then dialed it up to about 5.5 for the next pass and the touch-ups.
I ended up pretty much BBS smooth with no nicks

There is some blade feel but certainly not excessive.
A lot of the Gibbs style razors in Stainless Steel seem to drag somewhat. The Oliworks glides pretty easily, not "Taiga" level smooth for me, but has very little drag.
I found that I preferred the scalloped side, its slightly more efficient. It also has a bit extra blade feel.

The short version - This is an excellent shaver at a very affordable price point.

Free razors from Oliworks have arrived in Japan. The finish has slight machine marks, but not enough to be of any concern. The operation of the settings is smooth and we found no problems with the blade gap at each setting.
WTG and tried all of settings 1~6. After checking the feel of the blades, I decided to shave on setting 4.
The entire shave was very smooth and efficient. It was very smooth with a small to medium pleasant blade feel, but the ATG required slight attention.
Honestly, I like it a lot. It was very smooth even on setting 6, and based on the feel of the blades, I probably could have shaved without any problems. I found it to be a very good balance of smoothness and efficiency.
Whether the OliBrade will beat out my Sailor 2022 or Taiga remains to be seen. But considering the $150 price, it is a very good shaver.

That's it for my brief first impressions, thank you Oliworks. I look forward to seeing more developments in the future.
Personally, I hope to see an OliBrade in titanium. Perhaps the weight will be around 65g.

I have had nothing but incredible shaves with this razor, and I have the Rex ambassador, which I also love, but the oliworks is an outstanding razor.

This is my second shave with my Oliworks and the opinions remain the same.

Question - would you get the scalloped (hybrid) or the double straight bar configuration?

Does anyone notice a difference with the scalloped side?

I can say I have a few razors where I noticed a difference but not many.

After a few shaves, I haven't really developed a strong preference for one side over the other. The scalloped side does seem to have a little more blade feel, but it's still comfortable.

An Oliblade razor arrived in my mailbox yesterday, courtesy of Jorge at Oliworks. As many others have expressed, it couldn't not have been packaged and presented any better, unless it was to be delivered by Brinks (for those outside of the US, Brinks is an armored truck for moving hard currency around). Once opened, I was immediately impressed by several factors like the weight, the clean lines, the "tightness" of the mechanisms (both to remove the top cap and to change the setting), and the shininess. This is a machine finish that is leaps ahead of some others on the market. And by tightness, I do not mean "hard to turn," but that everything fits together nicely and looks refined. 

Not being as adventurous as some, I opted to use one of my favorite blades, the Personna Comfort Coated, new out of the wrapper. This morning, I lathered with a great soap I have been enjoying (MacDuff's unscented Aspen Parkland), and a favorite badger brush. I decided to start low and work up some as I got a feel for the razor. (I should mention that I tend towards razors many consider mild, but I find efficient and comfortable.) I started at setting 2 for the WTG pass, and realized I'd need more. For pass 2, XTG, I moved to setting 3. And for the start of the ATG pass, I went to 4, which felt like too much in the sensitive goatee area, so I backed down to 3.5. 

I alternated between the scalloped and the straight sides of the head without noticing any menace or discomfort. 

And I ended up with one of the best shaves in while! As others have noted, while this is based on the Gibbs razor, I found it more comfortable than the Heritage reproduction Gibbs I had. This is a keeper for me and I am excitedly looking forward to trying it out more!
