My first SE razor was the original Razorock aluminum black hawk. It was a way for me to test the waters with SE razors since i had developed a fascination over the much reviewed Mongoose II and alumigoose. The original Black Hawk produced a decent shave but turned me off to aluminum razors. It was very prone to scratches and dents. In fact, it's what lead me to prioritize stainless steel razors over everything else. SS quickly became personal preference for me and I eventually purchased both the mongoose II and eventually the SS DLC version of the Black Hawk.

When V2 of the Black Hawk was announced, I decided to test the waters again with aluminum razors and Im really happy that i did. The new V2 blackhawks are simply amazing. They've smoothed out the head a bit, changed the handle design, and added a flared bottom. It feels really great in my hands and an amazing sense of control. I dont feel like i have to worry about technique when using it.

If you're thinking about getting this razor, DO IT. I've literally stopped using other razors in my collection because this one shaves so damn well. It's simply a pleasure to shave with. It's actually annoying because i havent touched my rockwell 6S, mongoose II, or Futur since trying it out.

How does everyone else feel about this razor? Ive been using it with Kai Captain Milds and Feather ProGuard blades for easy BBS shaves.

I like the V2 slightly more than the V1 and still find the Hawk to be my most pleasant AC format razor but the GEM 1912 format still is my preferred single edge format.

To be vintage it must be older than me!
The last razor I bought was the next to last razor I will ever buy!

I am being gifted a v.2 aluminum HAWK but it has not arrived yet. Your review really has me excited now. I have both the v.1 aluminum and the SS DLC and think they are both terrific.

Congrats!!! I've used both the SS and the V1 and I personally think the V2 really knocks it out of the park. I wasn't joking in that I use it as my daily driver now and I've got a collection of really nice razors. I also like that it has a matte finish to it which also feels a bit textured. Hard to describe but it just feels so natural and balanced in my hands.
