What blades have you been using?

My favorites, so far, have been the Schick Proline P-30 blades. I have also used the Feather Pro blades and the KAI Mild blades. I found the KAI Milds pretty awful.

I've heard great things about the Schick prolines. Any idea where I can buy some samples?

Try A Blade: http://tryablade.com/blade/schick-proline-p-30

You can buy one blade or samplers packs.  $3USD shipping to the U.S. and Canada.

When buying full packs, I believe folks are ordering from Japan? Here's a thread here at DFS about the Proline AC blades: https://damnfineshave.com/thread-schick-...lub-blades

I did exactly this.  I ordered a few from Try-A-Blade and liked them enough to order two packs from Japan.  While they took about two weeks to get to me, it was so much less expensive ordering from Japan that it was well worth the wait.

By the way, you might also be interested in my first attempted use of a Schick Proline blade in the stainless steel HAWK: https://damnfineshave.com/thread-i-caugh...a-disaster.

Tried the V2 hawk today. Very nice but also very mild.
I used a feather professional blade with zero irritation.

I just find it very mild but will try another blade tomorrow.

hmmm yeah i guess YMMV. I had been using the feather pro's in my Mongoose II and it was definitely too aggressive for me. I'd frequently get minor nicks and scrapes. switching to feather proguards in the mongoose helped a bit but not as much as switching to the v2 blackhawk.

my guess is that i was applying waaaaay too much pressure when using my mongoose versus the blackhawk, most likely due to the overall weight of the mongoose. I wasn't crazy about the light weight of the original blackhawk v1 which is why i had moved onto the mongoose. however, the mongoose II with the hex handle is super heavy.

the blackhawk v2 has worked great using both feather proguards and kai captain milds. ive heard great things about the schick prolines and am putting in an order today at tryablade.com to try them out.

It was a way for me to test the waters with SE razors since i had developed a fascination over the much reviewed Mongoose II and alumigoose. The original Black Hawk produced a decent shave but turned me off to aluminum razors. It was very prone to scratches and dents. In fact, it's what lead me to prioritize stainless steel razors over everything else. SS quickly became personal preference for me and I eventually purchased both the mongoose II and eventually the SS DLC version of the Black Hawk.

When V2 of the Black Hawk was announced, I decided to test the waters again with aluminum razors and Im really happy that i did. The new V2 blackhawks are simply amazing. They've smoothed out the head a bit, changed the handle design, and added a flared bottom. It feels really great in my hands and an amazing sense of control. I dont feel like i have to worry about technique when using it.

If you're thinking about getting this razor, DO IT. I've literally stopped using other razors in my collection because this one shaves so damn well. It's simply a pleasure to shave with. It's actually annoying because i havent touched my rockwell 6S, mongoose II, or Futur since trying it out.

How does everyone else feel about this razor? Ive been using it with Kai Captain Milds and Feather ProGuard blades for easy BBS shaves.

Does the v2 feels/shaves differently, putting handle and balance aside?

I have the v1s, regular finish and black and i think they are awesome.

Overall quality of shave is pretty similar between the two, which is excellent. I prefer the V2 because of design, finish, and ergonomics. The V2 feels very sturdy in my hands and the design provides me with an overall better sense of control. Enhanced control can at times produce a more comfortable shaving experience. I really enjoyed the changes they made to the V2 and am looking forward to the stainless steel version which was just announced today

Based on the performance of the aluminum version, this will be a no brainer for me. RIP my wallet
