I suppose that is nice but also kind of ridiculous to suggest  keeping some blades from an open pack is even worth mentioning as a perk.

It kind of feels like they're making things up as they go and pretending to know what they're doing.


I agree and I'm hoping mantic can pin him down on an answer about returning unused blades from an opened pack..

I'm just content reading about the OneBlade core at this point. I'm stuck with what I have from them, so boo for that.

I was tempted to add OneBlade to the misunderstood thread, but honestly, I don't understand them at all.

I've hesitated in replying to some of the posts in this thread, because I don't want to be discourteous.

As I've said before, I've had nothing but good experience with OneBlade, both with the razors and the customer service. When I got the first stainless model, there was an issue with the leather case, and they couldn't be nicer, replacing it, and telling me to keep the original one that was rounded on the bottom.

I bought the CORE as a travel razor, and I had fairly low expectations because, well, it's a $50 razor. The shaves I've gotten are very good. As good as I can do with a high-end DE or SE and a lot of technique? No, but it's taken me-as I know it has many of us here-a long time to develop the techniques.

But for an 'automatic' razor that needs virtually no technique (ride the pivot, or steepen slightly), the shave-even with the CORE is remarkable for what it is.

I understand the criticism of them asking for the unused blades back. Although, I must say that there are some who will order a product with a money-back guarantee knowing that they will return it when they order it. I want to emphasize that I am not saying anyone here did that, of course. But I've been involved in businesses where a money-back guarantee is offered, and customers will order it to keep the freebies, with no intention of keeping the product. That's a choice the company makes when it offers the guarantee, and perhaps they've gotten burned with that and decided, for a while, to ask for the 'extras' back. I don't know.

But now that they've told people to keep the unused blades, it seems quite unfair to criticize them for that ALSO. They get criticized for asking for a return of the blades and get criticized for that, and then when they tell people to keep the blades, they're called ridiculous, and 'making it up as they go along'. Perhaps they're  just responding to the criticism they've received.

The CORE is a bit mild for me, but I knew what I was getting. I was so intrigued by the 'floating blade' that I just had to see if the stainless model (the GENESIS, v2) would shave better than my original v1. It does. Slightly more efficient, and even smoother feeling.

OneBlade has been in business for a little while now where they should have a fair amount of their wrinkles worked out already - after all, they're only selling a few products to begin with..

If OneBlade sets a policy where if someone doesn't like their razor, they can keep the blades, less the cost when the return is processed...I'd be fine with that. but to ask people to send back unused blades in opened packs seems very unsanitary to me. I would probably guess that once they get a fair amount of unused blades back from returns, they'll ship them off to wherever to have them repackaged and resold as brand new.

from an individual perspective, people exchange blades all the time between wet shavers, but we know the risk to expect. for a company to do this, it just seems odd to me.

for example, Shane is shipping his new sabre razor with a few SE blades, I believe. I highly doubt he'd ask for the blades back that weren't used if someone wanted to return their razor...

We're in agreement, Andrew-I did think it was a bit odd that they would have asked some returners of the CORE razor for the unused blades back.

What I was commenting on was that in this thread, OB got criticized for asking for the blades back and then ALSO got criticized for letting those returning the razor KEEP the blades.

There was a clue in one of the previous posts: They said that since someone returning the CORE was a GENESIS owner, they could keep the blades. This makes sense, as they have a razor that can use those blades. It seems to me that they're positioned more to the newbie wet shavers rather than we enthusiasts, and those newbies might not dispose of them properly-something we all take for granted.

Again, we agree. Even if the blades are still wrapped and waxed, potentially unsanitary. And any lawyer (myself included) would tell the company they'd be insane to take the risk of having returned blades repurposed for any reason. The potential liability far, far outweighs even 10,000 blades.

I don't see what's wrong with that. "You don't like the razor? Ok, send EVERYTHING back to us and we will refund your entire cost." That's it. What they do with the returned blades (if any !!) is just speculation. Maybe they throw them away. Maybe their employees use them. Who knows? Who cares?

it is speculation, yes. hopefully mantic59 can get them to answer this question if he has the chance to ask them. I can't see them throwing out the blades though..

would you like to buy packs of blades that were sent to some stranger, opened & handled, stuffed back in a box because the company requests them back, which are then re-handled by some stranger again and then possibly shipped out to be handled by yet another stranger who repackages them as if they were brand new?

my preference would be NOPE!

If I had the doubt in my mind that a company would do that I would simply avoid any business with that company. Obviously I have not such doubt in fact I regularly buy from Oneblade.
My company handles returns under warranty. We ask for everything back, in the same way. It's simply common practice.

I agree and I am sure their lawyers have told them as much. I never thought and do not think they are reselling the blades returned. When first posted, I immediately thought the company was smart and negotiated a deal with the distributor to get a credit for the returned blades. If I were in their shoes I would have everyone return the unused blades as well even without a credit from them distributor. The returned blades give an idea on how to evaluate a user's comments on the return. If the razor is returned with 9 unused blades then I would value their comments less than one returned with 3 unused blades.

I am thankful and impressed that the company has a return and refund policy for a razor in the $50 price range. To my knowledge most razors in this price range do not offer a full refund after using the razor.
