I looked at my other razors to see if there were any that support and clamp the blade the way the Era does, i.e., with the top cap and baseplate touching at the leading edge, across the entire expanse of the blade. I know that this doesn’t automatically translate into better performance, but I was curious. The only ones in my collection that appear to do this are the Charcoal Goods Gen. 3 razors and the Timeless razors (including the 0.5 slim). Not Overlander or Tatara or Lupo or Barbaros or Yates (or Blackbird). These brands rely on what some have referred to as a suspension type of blade support rather than rigid support from the baseplate across the entire blade at the leading edge of the blade. The question is - does it make a difference with respect to the shave or, put another way, does it means that these razors are “better?” Again, I think it’s a question of personal preference, and all of the aspects that go into the performance of any given razor. I am going to keep this in mind, though, as I use the Era and CG and Timeless, just to notice if there is any difference in the experience of the shave.

Have you managed to do any further comparisons, besides the CG?

Wanted to say that I tested the fit of the handle on my RR Lupo, and it wasn't much better than the Era tbh. Just wanted to add that to be completely fair.
The blade fit in the top cap is absolute perfection though in my Lupo, which is what really matters.

still using and loving my era sb level 5 plate.

I just got in the ERA OC level 5 and very impressed with my first shave this morning. This razor glides and shaves very close in two passes with blade feel that I like. I used the original handle with the grip rings. Tomorrow morning I will switch handles to a Timeless titanium Crown in matte finish. Reduces the weight by a full ounce. Shane has done a good job creating this line.

Please let us know how the change in handle weight affected the shave. Also, how well does the Timeless handle fit the Era?

The shave will probably be easier as the weight is reduced by an ounce. The grip with the Timeless Crown ti is great. Fitting the handle to the ERA is no issue as the base plate screw has no obstructions.

I recently got a Blackland Era and am really enjoying the shaves! I bought it because of the blade rigidity, as I think my face/whiskers do better with a rigid blade. The Era is pretty remarkable in that way, it is clamped along the entire edge of the blade, from end to end, and also very close to the edge itself. I have the Level 3 Safety Bar baseplate, which is a mild/medium aggression. It gives a safe and comfortable shave. I am not chasing BBS, but easily get that on my cheeks. It is safe enough that I can go right to XTG if I want to.

It is hard to capture just how much of a sliver of the blade is exposed and how closely it is clamped all along that edge. This is pretty unique and makes this razor different.
