New Blackland Era

I found the Era to be smoother than the Timeless Ti 0.68.

Isn't the Timeless 0.68 known for being extremely smooth, along with the 0.95?
Do you have the 0.95 too, or have you tried it?

Yes the Timeless 0.68 is known for being very smooth and it is. I just like the Ti Slim better. I have the 0.95 but don’t use it much, it’s a little too “efficient” for me.

In my opinion, even with the SB 0.95 Timeless you hardly have any blade feel similar to the SB 0.5 Slim Plate.
With the oc 0.95 and oc 0.5 slim you can clearly feel the blade

I’m going to do a mini comparison between the Era and the Overlander soon (one on one side of my face and the other on the other side, forgetting about the neck), and I’ll let you know.  They are two of my favorite razors and are both great.   I can tell you just from looking at the razor heads that the Era clamps more rigidly from the bottom (the baseplate), since the baseplate extends out close to the edge of the blade on each side, for the entire length of the blade, whereas the Overlander depends more on top cap bending the blade and the baseplate doesn’t extend out underneath the blade in the same way.  That doesn’t mean that one is better than the other, or that the Overlander doesn’t achieve rigidity in its own way, but it isn’t the same.  The Overlander head is also a little more bulky - not wider or longer, necessarily, but the Era razor head is lower profile and that makes it pretty maneuverable.

In the meantime: given that the Timeless 0.5 seemingly has similar kind of clamping on the bottom too, do you feel it has the same level of clamping as the Era (albeit being less smooth)?

I don't think blade clamping is necessarily the most important trait in a razor, but I can state with confidence that the Era clamps the blade closer to the cutting edge than any other razor on the market. The Era is practically as close as you can go while still allowing the cutting edge to cut.

I got my new level 5 sb era on Saturday afternoon. while the razor isn't bouncing around inside its packaging any longer like it was previously, it was in there so damn tight that I ended up ripping the insert when trying to get the damn razor out...

We can't have it both ways. So far we haven't had any complaints about the packaging fix. Just put your other hand on the insert so it doesn't lift up when you pull on the razor...

Im loving the Era razor. The Level 5 seems to be just about perfect for me. The 4 works well too. This razor punches well above it's weight. I love the entire razor as is.
