Looking at your collection makes me come to the conclusion that I also am a collector, but I wasn't trying to be.

I now have :

6 DE razors

1 razor to trim the hair on my neck and others

Several shaving soaps

Almost 200 DE blades

3 After shaves

There may be more, but I'm not even trying.

My den has exploded since I posted this. Im down to 4 DE razors and 1 SE, but I also have 2 shavettes and 6 shave-ready straights plus 1 I am restoring. Ive also now got 5 brushes; 3 synthetic, 2 boar, about 10 splashes, about 25 soaps and maybe 30 or so soap samples, and over 200 DE blades.

I like my den, but I try really hard to limit what it costs to have an enjoyable collection that is still very utilitarian...

My shaving area. The room is 5' x 9'.
The dresserette is 4' long and a very comfortable 38' high.

Chris,

So neat and orderly.
At your present rate of acquisition you may soon have to expand.
Great feeling isn't it.

I never had a beard. I tried twice and failed.
I never realized it took so much stuff and I guess TLC to take care of it.

Mickey

P.S. What a great way to utilize often wasted corner space,

Yea I have quite a little collection of oils, balms and waxes I use for my beard and mustache, as well as a variety of woodn and horn combs and boar brushes and, and, and...

Unfortunately, my shave den is the only "neat and orderly" room in the house...

Looks like it's time for an updated picture of my modest shave den!

I'll take one tonight...show the difference. It has changed quite dramatically...

Very nice shave den Mickey Oberman. I really like your brush and razor storage. Did you have that medicine cabinet custom made with the brush holders? And what did you use for the "razor rack" (I guess you could call it)? Awesome ideas!

wyzeOne,

All the furniture is from Ikea including the sink. The furniture had to be assembled. Some job.

The light and plumbing fixtures are brushed stainless as it does not show water spots as does glossy metal. They are from local suppliers.

The brush racks are individual pieces that I bought from Frank Shaving in China. They were 98 cents each. They may have increased. They come in cream, black and transparent colourless which I prefer as it goes with any colour. I have seen similar ones for $4.95 and $8.95 each at "upper class" shaving equipment suppliers..

I made the razor racks from 1/4" x 1-5/8" pine. I just measured it. I always asked for 1-1/2". Perhaps it's just the piece I picked up. I am not too particular.
I drilled 1/2" holes for the razor handles but some razors require larger or even oval holes. A file accommodates their needs easily. The lumber is from Home Depot.

I cut the length of the lower rack 1/16" longer than its space to make a tight friction fit.
For the upper one I wanted an arch so I cut it even longer. The pine is flexible.
Both of them rest on the 1/4" x 1"square strips described below.

I did not want to drill holes in the wall or the shower frame in case I wanted to change the racks locations. On each side I glued a 1/4" square strip by 1" long with fish glue which is very strong but can be removed with warm water. It does not smell fishy.

Two caveats.
1. The fancy metal plug for the sink requires a lot of strength to remove it. I use a smooth staple remover. I am going to speak to Ikea about them.

2. Drill the holes in the razor racks far enough back from the front edge so the heads do not protrude.

Thanks for the detailed description Mickey Oberman. Somehow, I didn't notice those were all just individual brush holders. I thought they were an integral part of the cabinet. The razor holders are a great idea. I think I may have to copy that. I'm running out of room in the medicine cabinet!
