Yes!
I've palm-lathered mine a few times (Arko & shampoo) and only had one hair come loose (short hair, un-anchored).
I've only shaved with it twice but I'm very impressed. Seems to be well built but there are a few patches of red hair in the knot and a few inverted hairs which may be scratchy in time. When dry, the tips are crunchy and some of the hair is developing hooked tips.

Any glue bump apparent in the 30mm brushes?

Yes, but not more than 5mm or so.

Absolutely.
Rooney Finest, gel tips, Lee's M&F, Shavemac's and current day Isle of Man Simpsons are all wonderful brushes but these newer LS/MS brushes stand right there with them and surpass most. If you can do without an exotic over colored handle, I would tell a new wet shaver not to waste his money and go straight to these beauties.

The exact same Simpson CH3 Manchurian costs $285 more. These new brushes perform as well or better imo.

It's a total racket. New wet shavers can get into this and use the exact same badger hair and save almost $300.

Thank me later!

Georg, you are going quite a bit out of your comfort zone with this size of a brush!  Big Grin
I hope you enjoy it.

This is a bit like comparing a Honda and a BMW, both will get you from A to B and if transportation is what you seek then you will certainly buy the Honda.

I have used a few low cost badger over the years and they all work overall just fine (excluding the occasional QC issue).

Now there are other factors to be considered when comparing brushes: treatment of the hair (bleaching, chemicals, you name it), quality of the handle, effective vs nominal loft (aka glue bump) etc.

Not saying these MS brushes are not good (I will comment on it when I get mine), but there will always be (more) space in my den for (another) Simpson brush (there is actually a Chubby 2 in Manchurian en route to me as I speak).

And, yes, I admit, I drive a BMW, too.

Yep, I've driven a lot in 25 years of wet shaving. With Simpsons your just paying for the handle at this point. That hair is readily available elsewhere these days.

I agree with you that there are many (good) choices available when it comes to hair - and in the end it all comes from China. I do believe there is still a difference in how the hair is sorted and how the knot is constructed.
Lots of less quality hair is also being treated in a way to make it more suitable, mean softer, whiter, with "gel" tips - and we will never know.

I am willing to pay a premium for the sorting and knot construction done at Simpson (or others who do make the knots themselves) combined with the handle quality and variety. I also believe, just from the looks and feel, that Simpson hair (and few others) is less treated than others (but I cannot back that up with data).

And there is always the customer service component: if something goes wrong with a Simpson, I know Mark will make it right.

Of course, there is also lots of Marketing hype, no doubt - like with BMW...
