That's a real shame.  There is no reason for you to send anything back IMO, they should just send you a new base plate and be done with it.  Unless there is more damage which I didn't notice.  

Sending it back is just nonsense, making you pay for it is insane. Of course, I'd be going after the vendor which sold it, but that's just me.

Maggard should give you a full refund. If they refuse and you used Paypal I would dispute it. You have 6 months protection from Paypal. If they get involved I am certain you will get your money back. But you will probably have to pay for shipping. Also if no satisfaction go on to Mongoose's Facebook page and complain. A lot of people see that.

I just checked Maggards’ page, and the Mongoose II is still up for sale there. I hope any issues get sorted out in good fashion! (I enjoy my Mongoose razors very much, and it worries me to see an issue like this come up.)

So my final best resolve at this time. Mongoose told me to send them the head and they would replace. Also they will PayPal me the cost of the shipping. Just have to wait another week to get. Mongoose will not send the replacement out until they get the bad one.

I emailed them about that. I said you have not removed your stock. Thought you said all of them had that chatter. Thinking they did not want to deal with the exchange and wanted me to go directly to mongoose.

We weren't aware of the issue; and if we had a unit that didn't have this mark we would have happily covered all costs associated with replacement.

We've contacted Mongoose to determine what they want us to do in this situation, as it seems as though the mark is mostly aesthetic on the vast majority of our stock, and are awaiting their response. It seems you have gotten communication faster from them than us, so glad to hear they are listening and responding to their customers. We would have followed up as soon as we heard back from them, rest assured.

It is entirely possible SRD's entire stock has this mark as well, as you may know there are very few Mongoose razors being produced (barely enough to keep up with demand). This razor is a specialty item, and they are still working through kinks in manufacturing. Every batch has very very minor quirks.

Since Mongoose is taking care of your issue and apparently will be refunding you your shipping expense, all of your costs seem to be covered. Yes, there will be a delay before you have a working razor - but this delay was no fault of our company, and we did exactly what Mongoose would have expected of us - we delivered the product to the customer in a timely fashion and would have resolved the issue if we were able to.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and while we are sorry for the inconvenience, we are unable to issue any refunds at this time.

Sounds like the wheels are now rolling both at the maker’s and the retailer’s end. It’s too bad that your case will take some extra time to be resolved, but hopefully in the end you’ll have a razor you can be happy with. Thanks for keeping us posted!

So shipped the head to mongoose and paid for a invoice so I can get the replacement by Monday. Will never buy from Maggard Razor again. I contacted Straight Razor Design and they send me pics. There's are perfect. To me Maggard should have inspected the stock before selling. Still think Maggard is lying to me about all there stock has that mark. If they did would not think they would be still selling them.

Moving on note. I did get to shave 1 time with the mongoose II before sending back. I used pro super and was a very nice smooth aggressive shave. I like better than the ATT SE1. Think it maybe the mongoose design has that head angle that helps keep a perfect angle.

That's a shame. Your like the one and only person I've ever heard of having a bad experience with Maggard.
