I have been off sick the last two days.
I went to the doctor today. Got a prescription for an inhaler and antibiotics. Bronchitis. I lost my voice yesterday from the coughing or the infection.
My sense of smell is dead. I have no appetite. It's hot and chilly in my house at the same time.
I am on my third or fourth box of Kleenex since Monday. My eyes are burning and my mouth tastes like a wet penny from the antibiotic.
The one little thing that has made me feel better besides the family helping out a little more than usual has been a hot shower every morning and a clean shave. Makes me feel human for a brief while.
I was in a hospital many years ago. When I got to go to a regular room out of intensive care I asked for a shower and a razor. I wanted to wash my hair, back when I still had hair, and to shave my face. I settled for a sponge bath and a disposable. Hello nurse!
Even though I feel miserable the basics always seem go so far for me. Give me a toothbrush and a shave kit and I'll feel a little better. For a while.
I feel like I got hit by a freight train. God willing I'll be getting up tomorrow morning and having a nice shave. Hopefully I'll be able to smell the soap and aftershave this time.
I wonder whatever happened to the cute young nurse who helped me back in the day... She gave a guy a reason to get better! Even if I was just a wise cracking 18 year old who didn't realize at the time how close I had really come to not shaving myself ever again.
Makes me appreciate the little joys in life. I just wanted to say this cold scared me. I coughed so much I blacked out for a second this morning. My wife said I was yelling at someone in my sleep the night before too. Fever I suppose.
I decided to get to the doctor today. It wasn't getting better. My job will be there when I do feel better. I hope. I wouldn't want it if being off because I'm this sick jeopardized it anyway.
The doctor today said that I was one leg into pneumonia. I have a course of horse pills to get through. I feel like a jerk for waiting so long to get checked out.
Luckily I'm just one shave away from feeling a little bit better in the morning.

Shave yourself.
