It is simple, sheer PLEASURE.
One may spend as much or as little in this shaving thing and have as many or as few accessories as suits her/his taste and pocketbook yet still derive great satisfaction from merely - s-h-a-v-i-n-g.
I am completely happy with the uncomplicated bare minimum but I do occasionally splurge. However I always return to my inexpensive very old single edge razors and SCC (soap, croap, cream), Rolls or GEM razor and Aqua Velva aftershave. As Porky pig always said: "Ththththat's aaall ffffolks".
For me, KISS is the rule that may once in a while be ignored.

I am fairly new to double edge shaving, brushes, and soaps and creams. Even while learning the techniques of making lather and applying no pressure, I was having fun. That is something that really strikes me as odd! Fun shaving, enjoyable, and relaxing (until I get inattentive and get a nick!). That just seems odd, even "wrong", and maybe I should seek professional help. I don't find any other grooming to be fun. I don't think I ever trimmed my nails and thought, "yeah, great job, and what a nice feel"! So I am with Mickey on this on: Pleasure!
