head shavers...

I head shave daily. I use whatever soap is on deck for my face unless it's one of my hard to get ones. If that's the case I use Haslinger Schafmilch since its cheap and a great soap and the scent wont interfere with anything. I like the Omega boar for my melon, 10098 I think, the really big one for coverage.

I was using a ATT M1 until I got my Timeless .68, now it's just 1 razor and blade for everything. I just apply whatever slash I am using that day. 2 ATG passes and its a done deal.

I picked up some real schick xtreme 3 and gillette mach 3 razors last week when I was in walmart.  I wanted to see if the legit version of these razors did better than the generics.  I cannot recall if i used the generic xtreme 3 with shaving oil or cream so I may need to revisit that in the near future.

that issue aside, I used the real schick xtreme 3 tonight with my bee bald shaving cream tonight.  this stuff is super slick and works nicely.  the scent is on the sweeter side so it may not be for everyone.  I usually shave at night before going to bed so that stuff is never really an issue for me.. I've been using my gillette guard for the entire amount of time I've been head shaving.  while it does a fine job, I wish it got closer on my sides and on the rear of my head on its first pass.  the xtreme 3 seems to do this well with 1 WTG (possibly XTG in some areas) pass.  since my head doesn't really tolerate ATG passes all that well - especially around my nape area and near my ears - I don't bother with them.

the only downfall is that the cartridges cost more than the gillette guards, I believe.  I'll have to decide what I want to do when my testing is finished up with both the xtreme 3 and the mach 3...does anyone know if any site sells the cartridges in bulk for a discount?

I too experimented with all 3 razors that you mentioned above for my head shaves. In the end, I decided to go with the Mach 3. Although the most expensive of the 3, you get what you paid for ... and heck, I'm worth it!

I think I'm still dealing with some mild folliculitis on my scalp....I haven't shaved my head in probably a week or so now and I still have several red bumps on my head...

does anyone use a tea tree oil mix/blend to wash their hair/scalp? I've read a lot of good things about it...

I have been shaving my head for close to a year. I use a Mach 3 and do a two pass shave. I tried a DE but ended up getting cuts on the back of my head.

Specifically for bumps, I regularly use SheaMoisture tea tree after shave, very good and moisturizing and tightening at the same time. Has a citrus scent that doesn't intrude on cologne after a couple minutes.

You may have already thought of this but I have found that across the grain (sideways) on the back of the head above the hook and with the grain (downward) in the back of the neck below the hook... No cuts or irritation (and I cut myself easily, lol, even with a cart or electric!)

I've been shaving my head for 10 years, but only started wet shaving it by myself this year. I love the entire barber experience, but it's not practical for me on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. I shave my face twice a week due to laziness and being in an extremely casual work environment. I also make it a very deliberate and relaxing evening ritual and usually add my head to my Sunday routine. Vintage Gillette TTOs have been my go-to up until the beginning of this month when I started using Timeless. I start with a .95 SB for a WTG pass, switch to a .68 SB for a modified XTG pass, then slight touch up. The most helpful thing that I learned (as always, YMMV) was to go by feel. I'm usually high and have a drink poured when I'm prepping/shaving so slowing down and relaxing are pretty easy for me. After my normal prep, just like my face, I look at what I'm doing to get things started, then I almost close my eyes and take slow short passes while feeling my way with my other hand. Sounds odd and potentially painful, but I've gotten much better, smoother, closer shaves with much less effort or irritation. Let the razor do the talking and just go along for the ride!

I might look into that. right now I'm using a jojoba & tea tree oil blend and it's doing quite well with the bumps I have that I suspect are folliculitis.

a razor with a pivoting head is just easier to use on the head, IMHO. this is why I'm excited to try the leaf razor that has a pivoting head that'll allow us to use DE blades that get snapped in half. I hope it works as well as its been advertised.
