Not sure if grapeseed lasts long enough before oxidizing to be worth in comparison to other oils. Glycerin is good and never personally bought raw meadow foam but have enjoyed it in many products.

It's a good point. Grapeseed shelf life at room temperature is about three months. Meadowfoam is highly resistant to oxidation. Sir Hare blends do include Vitamin E and tea tree oil which have antioxidant properties and no doubt extend shelf life.

I shave my head 3-4 times per week. Hot shower then cold water shave with whatever shave soap I am using on my face and a Schick Krona. Follow up with witch hazel and balm.

8th shave down...same gillette guard blade. I have a few weepers from my last shave that haven't fully healed yet so I'm probably going to give it 3-4 days before I shave the dome again..

had my 9th shave 2 days ago. I'll probably switch blades after my next shave...I could probably stretch it for a few more shaves, but it's not worth it to me.

It sounds like your head shaving is going fairly smoothly, andrewjs18?

pretty good, yes. through trial and error I've seen what my head can and cannot tolerate as far as shaving. going ATG seems to be a big no no for me..

I forgot to update this! jmudrick was kind enough to send me a generous sample of his shaving oil. to me, it has a very nice lemon fragrance to it (I love most things with lemon in it both as a scent and as food).

my sir hare shaving oil comes in a brown bottle whereas the oil jmudrick sent over came in a clear bottle so I wasn't able to compare the oils based on looks without pouring both of them into my hand or on something. I'm not into wasting stuff so I didn't bother with that. instead, for the head shave I was doing shortly after receiving the oil, I made sure to use it for my entire shave. I could tell very quickly once the oil was in my hands that it wasn't as viscous as the the sir hare oil I have. The oil seems to rinse off easier and it doesn't gunk up the razor as often!

kudos, jmudrick!

I'm not sure if oil will replace the shaving creams I'm using or my regular soaps once I give lathering a try again on my head, but it certainly doesn't hurt to keep experimenting!

I picked up some real schick xtreme 3 and gillette mach 3 razors last week when I was in walmart. I wanted to see if the legit version of these razors did better than the generics. I cannot recall if i used the generic xtreme 3 with shaving oil or cream so I may need to revisit that in the near future.

that issue aside, I used the real schick xtreme 3 tonight with my bee bald shaving cream tonight. this stuff is super slick and works nicely. the scent is on the sweeter side so it may not be for everyone. I usually shave at night before going to bed so that stuff is never really an issue for me.. I've been using my gillette guard for the entire amount of time I've been head shaving. while it does a fine job, I wish it got closer on my sides and on the rear of my head on its first pass. the xtreme 3 seems to do this well with 1 WTG (possibly XTG in some areas) pass. since my head doesn't really tolerate ATG passes all that well - especially around my nape area and near my ears - I don't bother with them.

the only downfall is that the cartridges cost more than the gillette guards, I believe. I'll have to decide what I want to do when my testing is finished up with both the xtreme 3 and the mach 3...does anyone know if any site sells the cartridges in bulk for a discount?

I don't doubt a cartridge might provide either a closer shave , or an equivalent shave with less effort. But as my technique has improved I'm getting to BBS in two ATG passes with pretty much every DE I own (a lot) and enjoying the shaves. I simply don't enjoy the shaving experience with carts, either the feel in hand, or the feel of the blades, and I wouldn't trade that enjoyment for some marginal improvement in the closeness of the shave. I realize I'm fortunate to not have skin irritation issues like some folks.
