My name is Mohammad I live in the Bay Area - CA. I launched GroomingDept on May 15th 2017!
I have been working on a vegan soap formula for about a year. I wanted to try make a soap after I amassed over 50 artisan and non-artisan soaps.
Whether one chooses vegan or tallow soaps, there are many fantastic offering on the market these days. But four soaps stood out for me, Saponificio Varesino, Valobra and two soaps that are no longer available: Wet Shave Obsession and Klar Kabinett.
I made 53 iterations of my soap while varying the ingredients and performing multiple blind tests to see what works and what I liked best. At iteration 34 I started sending out samples to various wetshavers in the community. I kept refining the formula till I felt I can offer a soap that is exceptional.
I wanted to create a soap I can use ATG on the first pass and survive the ordeal Really, most non-wetshavers do that all the time with their 5-plus blade razors. The soap has a slickness that is off the charts, and takes/needs to a lot of water to reward you with that type of slickness. The post-shave is also extreme, it's very soothing and healing too. It has a lot of ingredients, precisely to achieve something unique among soaps.
The ingredients are very complex, some people are taken aback by the complexity. But to achieve all the goals I set for myself I had to make a complex formula. If you look at the latest Saponificio Varesino, it has 31 ingredients. I was very pleased this morning to discover that Barrister and Mann’s new Reserve uses one of my star ingredients, it’s called Sucrose Cocoate.
