I just got my first Fatboy it's an F3. I noticed it has service notches on the bottom. I'm new to these but what I've read is that F2's are the last with service notches. Hoping someone more knowledgable than myself can confirm if this is the case

Are those the notches to pull it apart?

They are the two notches on the bottom of the TTO knob that allow you to disassemble it a bit easier. Later ones lack them.

Consider that the number designation stands for the quarter of the year that the razor was produced. When a new quarter started they didn't just throw away unused parts from the previous quarter. They used whatever was in their inventory until it was gone. There are lots of Gillette razors that are a mix of parts along the margins of design and production changes.

That is exactly my understanding of what Gillette's Goodwill razor was when that company was transitioning from their Old Type to the NEW.  While not exactly Frankenrazors, the Goodwill was a combination of parts of razors that might no longer be in production so I could see the company doing the same thing with other styles.
