Nice SOTD! That brush’s color at least in the photo matches the fire the Dragon is spewing perfectly!

Thank you

So today I used the I Coloniali for the first time since receiving it from Dave in KY and thank you again my friend for sending such a good sized amount.

I like the scent quite a bit and it’s going to put me on a olfactory journey to figure it out as best I can and I’m more motivated now that I’ve had my nose on it.

Even before using it I could definitely smell a cooling ingredient of some sort. What I got out of that was it definitely wasn’t a Peppermint, Spearmint or Wintergreen. I still want to get a little more nose time with it but if I had to make a guess it’s a green mint which is what grows in the garden that I’m sure many of you are familiar with or it’s a aroma chemical minty scent. I almost get a mint candy type scent similar to a breath freshener. I will note it’s very very mild and definitely not as cool as any of my shave soaps with cooling.  I will say and anyone that has it try this as I did something on purpose. After shaving a 2 pass shave I put the lather on my face ( the whole face and neck ) and let it sit for about 6-7 minutes. That’s when I got more of the cooling and after removing it from my face I only used some unscented witch hazel which didn’t effect the scent and I have to say that the cooling has lasted about 30 minutes now but starting to fade fast. Ok so that’s about it for the cooling scent and It’s potency. I’m sure if I had rinsed it off right away after the shave it wouldn’t have lasted as long as it did.

Scent wise I’m going back and forth but I get a little wood note, smithing sweet maybe an fruit or sweet almond note that’s extremely mild and another note that’s very familiar to me but not sure what it is yet I thought maybe Mahogany and I’ll check that out. I also get a very slight sea salt note from it but again very mild which if that’s mixed with just menthol in a very small dose that and the sweet note  would explain by itself the unusual mint note I’m getting. I’ve read some old reviews and I saw where some folks mentioned a mongo scent and I can confirm with almost 100% confidence that the Mango in the ingredient list is just a carrier oil which has not Mango fruit scent note to it. So let’s rule that out. It’s an interesting aroma and I can’t say it’s a typical clean scent but that’s about as close as I can get and if you had to get an answer out of me today I would classify it as a clean scent as a generalized scent description and then go into the details but we are not there yet. So this is my day one impression. I won’t comment on the soaps Performance as it has nothing to do with the scent that I’m chasing.

Well here we go again! Lol

I still have I Coloniali and I agree, there is a cooling effect to it. I always thought that it paired well with Alt Innsbruck. You might want to get your nose on that, Frank.
If you make your own version of the Coloniali, I would purchase.

primotenore Wow that’s a great tip. I’ll get a sample of that and see what happens. I’m really interested in seeing what the aftershave smells like in comparison to the Shave soap. I will be getting a sample from a customer in Italy FlashOne and it may take a bit as it has to go from Italy to my vendor in Slovenia Anticatura who has a license to ship Alcohol and he will forward it to me. I’m now bound and determined to get this one done. My target is somewhere in late spring early summer. I want to make sure I do the scent justice.

Frank

Thank you Dave in KY for your SOTD video. I agree with you that razor has a lot of blade feel and I think your smart to put the Ti handle on it. Back in the day I had a couple of their razors and was sent different models for my Shave Offs and I’ll say the one I liked best and to me had the least amount of blade feel was the Copped Windsor I was sent for the Shave Off.

Also a question. Do you rinse your soap on the inside of the jar or wipe the cake and then immediately put the lid on it? Or do you let it sit without the lid for a few outs or overnight? Reason I ask is if the puck is still really wet with a scent as light as something like ShaveMD or any Citrus for example it could effect the potency of the cent overtime decreasing it. I’m just curious as you mentioned the difference between the soap and the Splash in the Tortola which make perfect sense as one uses a Oli based infusion mixed with essential oils and the splash uses the alcohol base infusion which should be stronger.

Just me yakking away like you know I can. Lol

FYI it’s cold as heck here today and we just started getting another blizzard again today as we’ve had multiples in the last week. It’s certainly getting old and it makes everything take much longer and for me it effects my mood and motivation to leave the comfort of a nice warm place. I need a vacation where it’s warm!

Have a good one

The scent difference is something I noticed immediately when it was first bought, not a big deal. Just different and you explained why now. I used to rinse inside the tub and let sit for awhile before covering and for years, never an issue. Anymore I with my finger get the excess lather and put on my face before lathering with the loaded brush, then rinse the outside of the tub and let sit on the shelf at least during the rest of the shave with the lid just setting off center on the tub. I close it later and put away. Stay warm. After the 0 temp this morning we hit, we are getting a heatwavew of 31 for a high. Feels food after of late and a warming trend is starting thankfully. Take care !
