Well of course that makes sense from a business perspective and I suppose that if we want our favourite artisans to be around for the long term then we should expect them to behave in a business-like manner right? That said I do sometimes miss those crazy, heady days of frequent, wild new product releases, system crashes and post release gloating of those lucky enough to get limited release items. And lets not forget the very different reactions from some of those not quick enough on the keystroke. Good times.

Seriously though Shawn, I think that's wise of you. No matter how much we may like a particular scent or product, the reality is, once we've got some its going to last us a while because today's wet shaver is working through a significant rotation. Once you've saturated that market, product isn't going to fly off the shelf at the same clip. I look at things from a couple of different perspectives, first, I'm not running out of the things you're discontinuing any time soon, second, when I do run out you may have re-released some of them and third, even if I do run out and you don't rerelease them you will likely have come up with something else I'll like at least as much, maybe more. Life is change. This age related mellowing kind of sucks though Dodgy

I also understand what you’re doing, Shawn, and why. It also seems that you’re focusing more on new scents for the Parfum products, which makes sense. At the least, I hope you continue limited runs of aftershaves in the new Parfum releases. I’m mighty glad I’ve got two bottles of Nefertiti aftershave, and might buy a third when Admiral is released (assuming they’re still available).

I agree with Marko that even us fan boys can only buy so many bottles of aftershave. I’ve got at least two bottles of every scent I’ve been able to get my mitts on (except Clamorgen, to my regret). I’ll not live long enough to get through them all, but I sleep easier knowing I’ll not run out...

Technically, I am doing more releases and putting out more stuff for the Provisions line than the Parfums line, still. The permanent additions have been every 7 months on the Parfums line with two Side Project Series releases. In the span of the past eight months since Lamplight Penance came out and Nefertiti was released (along with 3SHEETS and Biblio), I have released/have planned to release La Forêt de Liguest, Taum Sauk, Colbeck, Admiral, Weinstrasse, 88 Chestnut Street, Sni Mato and West Egg, as well as adding unscented options for both the aftershave and toner. Some of them aren't new scents, but I'm still creating new stuff for the Provisions line more frequently than I am for the Parfums.

The difference is partially that I spend a year or more crafting the permanent additions Parfums line and they are greater achievements. While it does kind of hurt to take something like that and then reformulate it to take out the most expensive materials and strip down accords that get distorted and muted by soap and aftershave bases, I don't plan to not make shaving products as long as the demand is there. However, as there are more and more people who make really great, high-end aftershave, that demand has decreased while the demand for my fragrances (both the Provisions line and the Parfums line) has been the area of growth for my business. So as Marko outlined probably better than I have, sometimes good business decisions aren't fun decisions to have to make.

I haven't found any "high-end aftershaves" with alcohol as the primary ingredient that can provide the face feel and moisturizing effect of Chatillon Lux. Maol Grooming is also very good, but the Maol scents aren't as interesting to me.

I second what CCity said above - no other post shave product (that I've tried) gives the Chatillon Lux face feel and incredible scent.  The old one two punch in the face.  In a good way.  Its been fun to watch Chatillon Lux grow over the four years you've been at this Shawn - four years?  It seems like longer.

Just wanted to point out to all it seem he has refilled his line of bath soaps with an additional sent. Just bought one of each myself.

There’s a reason my bottle of Yuzu Rose Patchouli is my emptiest. I used it again today, and re-discovered how sublime and long-lasting this aftershave is. I also have the EdT. My favorite Chatillon Lux scent.

I just received a small package today from hawns at Chatillon Lux, and I am so happy I ordered it. I snagged the Unscented Aftershave for days that I didn’t want my Splash to interfere with my daily scent. The sample of ‘Weinstrasse’ had my interest piqued because I’m a fan of Fougere Scents, but I couldn’t imagine the White Grape note. I sampled the fragrance as soon as I received it, and this is something special. The White Grape in the opening is beautiful and smells exactly like Grapes on the Vine. I can smell the slightly sweet Grapes as well as the Green from the Vines. About twenty minutes into the wearing I started to smell something like sweet hay. This is a warm scent, not a cold one to my nose. The sweetness almost smells like Honey. The sweetness isn’t over the top floral or gourmand to my nose, it’s a very fresh warm scent. My Brain keeps thinking honey and hay when I take a sniff. I also get a note of something that reminds me of Chatillon Lux’s Santal Auster. I’m two hours into the wearing now, and I have no idea what I’m smelling, but it almost has a warm creamy/soapy smell. This Scent is absolutely Beautiful, and I’ve never smelled a take on a Fougere like this before. I’m only two hours into the wearing, and I can’t wait to see how it continues to develop. hawns has hit it out of the park with this one as a Niche/Independent Fragrance maker, well done. Definitely full bottle worthy!

I don't want to dominate this thread, but I splashed Lamplight Penance aftershave this morning, and I'm still sniffing this magnificent scent 12 hours later. My EdTs are taking a back seat. I look forward to the Weinstrasse release tomorrow.
