So the reason I haven't had another post is I wanted to try and put something together and it looks like things are lining up. I reached out to Sean from CarbonShavingCo. this week to ask him if he would be interested in joining me for a live shave via Instagram tomorrow. I told him that it could be interesting since I was going to do a video using the 3 different plates and we could use the opportunity to have the maker of the razor help cover the topic. I have a few questions I already sent over to him but I would be happy to include specific questions you may have concerning the design or differences between the options he has.

I did mention to Sean that i will leave it up to him to include answering questions that are outside of being related to the pass around gear. I have a question regarding the stainless steel models but if it isn't something that he wants to cover in this video, I am happy to ask him elsewhere. I plan on downloading the stream off of instagram after it's down and uploading it to youtube for you guys here on the forum. Let me know if there is anything you want us to try and cover.

P.s.-I reached out to Whisker_whacker for his address so I will be sending the package to him on Monday to keep things moving forward.

Had my first shave with the original Ti plate and two tone handle today. This is my first Ti razor as well as my first time using anything from Carbon. I already had it in my mind that this razor probably wasn’t for me. Mostly because I already have too much $ invested in this hobby and since I’ve tried a lot of high end ones already (CG, WM, Timeless, etc). Well first shave kinda changed my mind about that and I’m glad I have the opportunity now. I don’t want to get too much into it yet because it seems like I always love a razor after first use but something about this one clicked. I’ve been leaning towards heavier razors and more efficient gaps lately but this thing has me second guessing myself. I had 24 hrs growth and 3 passes (WTG, XTG, ATG) resulted in a BBS shave. The shave resulted in 0 irritation. 6 hours in now and I only feel a bit of stubble coming in but not much. The extremely light weight made it a true joy to use, almost reminded me of the ease of using a cartridge. Sometimes going ATG in some areas with my more efficient razors cause a bit of tugging and not sure if it was because of a new blade or the smaller gap/higher exposure combo but that wasn’t the case this time. More to come.

Razor: carbon Ti
Blade: persona med prep
Brush: Omega my Italian neighbor got for me in Italy
Soap: Shannon’s soaps Aussie Ice
Aftershave: ETHOS clean

Second shave this morning with another 24 hrs worth of growth and I decided to pit the + and ++ plates against each other. This is where the personal preference really comes into play as I did not like either plates. I did 3 passes but during all I found it difficult to maintain the best angle of attack. So I did a 4th pass with the original plate and it knocked everything off that I wasn’t able to get with the other two plates. I think the combo of the exposure and gap on this OG plate is my sweet spot so for the rest of the shaves I’m going to do some shave offs with my WR2 1.15/1.35, diamondback, and charcoal goods. I do tend to like more exposure than most, it helps me maintain my angle better. With the + and ++ plates I found myself having to re-adjust each time I went back to the skin and hard to maintain the effective angle. So far the OG plate is a big winner in my book.

I do have a few questions that hopefully carbon shaving can answer. Is it bad to use a handle with a M5x0.8 threading with this razor? I wasn’t aware this razor used a 10-32 threading until I went back and read the SS posts about it. It was a bit of a shock to me as I’ve only heard of vintages and the fatip using this thread pattern.

Also, the Ti / carbon handle is the only one I’d see myself buying with this razor but the site has the Ti razor listed at $349 and the Ti/carbon “titan” setup listed as $499. So the handle for this razor is what puts it $150 more than the all Ti one? Does this mean the handle alone would cost close $200? If I were to purchase this razor, which I will probably end up doing, I can’t see myself paying an extra $150 for the handle I would want and would probably end up getting the cheaper Ti one and swapping it out with my Juergen Hempel aristocrat Ti as long as it wouldn’t “hurt” the razor due to the different threading on the handle.

My time with this razor is at its end. I will be sending it out Monday to the next recipient. I have enjoyed this razor with the original plate more than I thought I would. Some comparisons with the OG plate.......

Charcoal Goods copper lvl 2 with Stinger handle vs carbon Titan - the Charcoal Goods has less blade feel, felt smoother and was a bit more efficient on 2 passes (WTG & ATG). However, I ended up enjoying the shave with the carbon a bit more, very nimble and precise with less chance of weepers.

Vector vs carbon titan - the vector was a tiny bit more efficient and had more of an aggressive blade feel. Again I enjoyed using the carbon more. I believe the size of the head makes for more of a precise tool.

Diamondback 2020 vs carbon titan - diamondback is smoother with less blade feel. Also ended up being more efficient. These are two great razors with 2 very different personalities. Like using a marker vs a colored pencil. The diamondback gets the job done smoother and faster, but sometimes you want to spend some time enjoying the shave.

Between all of these shaves the carbon is quite different in the sense that you can really feel the blade and hear it cutting all the hairs but don’t get any tug / aggression that usually comes with that trait. The angle is very intuitive and easy to maintain throughout the shave. It is right in the middle of mid agressive/efficiency but one of the only razors I’ve been 100% comfortable with doing 3 passes day after day for daily shaves. I usually demand a little more efficiency but the OG plate is just such a pleasure to use. I’m very curious if the SS version increases the efficiency at all from the weight difference. I feel like the same blade exposure with a bit more gap increase would be the sweet spot for me. Either way I see myself getting this razor once available again. It was certainly a delight to use and I thank everyone involved that made this pass around happen. Perfect timing because I just received the H&S Ti from another pass-around and will pit them against each other Monday before sending the carbon off.
