Blade Banks

Curious on what everyone uses as a blade bank? I know some companies sell a generic blade bank to store and eventually recycle your blades but i'm curious on hearing
about your home made blade banks? 

I use an old pop can as a blade bank. I'm wondering if that's fine or if I need to find a sturdier blade bank to use since i'm not sure a pop can containing used blades is safe to throw into the recycling?

I use the little metal commercial one.  It holds a lot of blades, it fits easily into my medicine chest, and the cost is only $1.00.

My concern with a pop can is that it is light and very soft aluminum and if accidentally squeezed, an injury could still occur.  I think I would go with a sturdier tin can like a soup can.

As for recycling, that may vary from community to community.  I called the San Diego city department that handles trash and was told not to put blades in the recycle bin.  I believe they consider them a medical waste hazard but I'm not sure.

+1 just cut a slit in the cap and good to go.

Here in the UK we have a few Pound Shops ($1.50). They sell metal money boxes which are six inches in height and four inches across. They - weirdly - despite being a money box have no hole for which to get your money. These hold a lot of blades. I have been using it for around a year and it feels less than a quarter full. To make it look nice I have covered it in blade wrappers I have used.

heck, I don't even go through that trouble with them. I twist the cap off, drop the blade in and then put the cap back on. done!

Using a old school mini coffee tin works great, slit a slot in the top to drop the used blades in.

Yup - you just have to look up where there's a sharps disposal box near you.  I live in south bay, and here are drop boxes in San Diego.  My blade bank (the $2 one from Maggard's conveniently priced to get an order up to free shipping) isn't full yet, so I haven't had to stop by a drop box.
