I have made a great find. My beard and stache is like boar's hair. I found this shop in Kennebunkport Maine called Minka. They do have a website. I tried something they call Hand and Beard Butter. made from all natural stuff. It is AMAZING and gets my coarseness soft and manageable. I highly recommend it.

I'll have to check it out. I've been pretty happy with the blend I've made so far, especially because I love the scent of ShadowsDad bay rum fragrance. I do notice a big difference in the texture of my beard from when I do and don't oil it. I tend to get a lot more knots when it's not oiled, and then the skin beneath the beard can get itchy.

I have had the privilege to test The Mod Cabin grooming oils, and not only do they work well for keep facial hair well kept, but also have a light scent as to not be bothersome throughout the day.
Another advantage, they have worked well for me as pre-shave oils, not causing problems with soap/cream lathering

Can't remember any particular brands as I've been clean shaven for a while now but I have read a few positive remarks about olive oil as a beard conditioner. I'd imagine it'd have to be used very sparsely though as the beard may get a little too oily otherwise.
One thing I do remember about using beard oil is that afterwards my beard glistened - The red and white hairs sparkled and I ended up looking like some kind of shimmering viking! Glorious!

just checking in again. I'm still using the recipe I mentioned here and it's working just fine. I can tell the difference in my beard from when I use it and don't use it.

wetshavingproducts sent me their gaelic tweed and matterhorn beard oil to try it out to get some more feedback from bearded men. I love the smell of matterhorn...gaelic tweed smells good, but matterhorn smells better to me. I used some tonight after my shower, so far, so good...good staying power with the scent. I'll report back in a few days!

We make beard oil and I keep a bottle to use on my mustache. Put a little dab on in the evening after my shower and in the morning my mustache is much more manageable. Smells great under the nose too!

Bay Rum makes me smell like a pirate and that probably isn't the best choice for an average day at the shop. An auto shop, yes....craft and art consignment shop, not really. It's hard to know what any scent will turn out to be until you actually wear it. More about that in another thread sometime.........
MsBlackwolf, you may not wish to smell like a pirate (for the life of me I can't understand why not) so have you given Krampert's Finest Frost Bite a sniff? Its not nearly as piratical as the Bay Rum. Both of the Krampert's Finest aftershaves provide very nice skin conditioning in addition to all the other things that aftershave is supposed to do. The Frost Bite has frankincense in it which smells quite nice. The menthol freeeeeeze is just a bonus. I really like Krampert's soaps as well as the atershaves, but then I like smelling like a pirate. M
About this time every year I’ll let my beard grow until March or so. Or whenever the wife starts nagging at me, telling me that I look like some kind of wild man from the back woods.
I go from the Badass beard oil to the Badass beard balm, The Secret Agent beard balm from www.badassbeardcare.com .
I have been using Secret Agent for a few weeks now, good stuff. Makes my beard a lot softer, smother and shiny.
I have noticed less frizzy flyaway hairs and the beard is easier to brush out.
All natural oils and butters in this Beard balm, yep, work’s for me.

I've tried several different brands of beard oil over the past couple of months and I am most impressed and satisfied with The Holy Black Snake Oil which, notwithstanding the name, is a beard oil. Goes on nice, gives a great shine and smells great. How can you go wrong? Go on out and get some - I have it in bay whisky lime scent but its currently available in gunpowder spice which is a really nice scent too - its become The Holy Black signature scent.
