The little twist of the dial shouldn't make a night and day difference. Something was amiss that I need to figure out. Post shave feels fine, no redness, no razor burn and I am smooth.

Have a great day!

Thasa nother nice pic, Jim.

I would chalk up today to the blade. Feather wins one. I run across those from time to time.

Our friend, Mr. Bread cornbread asked about preferred blades so this is a good segway to that discussion. As george1906 Big G said, I too believe these razors are specifically tuned to Feather blades. To extend, my belief is all Rocnel's are. I am not learned enough on blades to point out the differences, but I do know Kai is wider. When it comes to blades, I just know what I like. I tried all of the biggies and settled on Feather for prior mentioned reasons, Astra green packs, Personna Blue, and GSBs. Astra and GSBs are very smooth in any of my razors. I tried the GPlatinum but did not like it as much as a GSB. Feather is a love hate thing with me.

Thanks.

I've got a fresh Feather loaded for tomorrow.

Does putting the topcap on the other way around affect anything other than the way the markings line up because it's engaging the first thread 180° out? Does it change the geometry at all?

Other than Kai, I don't notice much of a difference from my favorite to my least favorite blade. I do notice the increased blade feel from a Kai.

Yes the topcap has a critical correct orientation. Otherwise the engagement to the threading will be off and affect the accuracy of the settings. Murat has confirmed this and you will notice the setting will not align to 0 if the cap is on backwards. Correct orientation should have the ROCNEL text on the cap facing away from the Sailor text on the handle. I have a photo of it a few pages back. Sorry I’m on my phone couldn’t dig it up now

Other adjustable such as the taiga also has a correct cap orientation requirement. The taiga has alignment markings on the side of the cap and baseplate where the sailor does not.

You may have had a dud Feather. It’s happened to me more than once throughout the years as well as sone other blades.

I hand strop my Feather blades on the first use only as it seems to take that little bit of harshness away.
You might want to new Feather blade.

I shaved on setting # 7 and it was still very smooth considering the effectiveness of the razor at that setting. I use absolutely 0 pressure with this razor.

Just some suggestions.

Great shaves!

Thanks for the suggestions. Feathers are my go to blade and what I use whenever a new razor is added to the collection. I'm going to blame it on a dud blade. I suppose it's possible I was applying too much pressure but it's hard for me to believe the technique I've been working on for the last few years to have changed so drastically overnight. Tomorrow is another day and another shave.

I decided last night to follow our friend Dragonsbeard into the #7 setting. Do you guys see what kind of influence he is, maybe I'm influenced easy. lol
I loaded up a feather that was Palm stropped,  another one of Frank and Mark's ways.
I could hear the hairs coming off in a nice tone that I was enjoying.
Pretty smooth to say the least, with a nice shave. I did get a couple of weepers in a couple of spots I tend to over shave trying to pick the hair out/off.
The razor did fantastic.  I'm sure if I get better at stretching and the light touch with the heavier razor, I'll be better off for it.
No doubt about it very nice razor, and I'm all enjoy getting used to.
No rattle, wiggle or the like noticed, at all.
I am converting over to more of washing the razor head off with the tap instead of sink water. The tap water rinse off gets the soap out of the razor a little bit better.

With all this recent talk of of a titanium version, it kind of got me thinking of what the next razor would look like.

For fun, I made a rendition.

Every year, we get to see some sort of change, some tweaks here and there, whether stylistically or for functional reasons.

Of course I don't know what Murat has in store for the future, but it would make sense that he would continue with a similar design language.

What I've shown here is to include a lather channel that flows all the way through to give it a clean and sleek look.  I've also included the tapered dial-knob from this year's Sailor.  Sort of like a hybrid from the last 2 versions.  Hope you guys like it.
