The post on TSN that I found says apparently the smile is normal, and goes on to say that they replaced the razor and that he was getting great shaves.  To me, it isn't clear from that post that they told him it was normal, though it does infer they said that.

I may have missed other posts.  Based on the one I just referenced, I'm giving them the benefit of doubt based on seeing emails from them saying they are replacing it.

There is no doubt in my mind that they had manufacturing problems.

that's not true. they told the fellow that the smile was intentional and part of the design. see this post: http://shavenook.com/showthread.php?tid=...#pid730134

quoted bit:

Quote:You are putting the blade in correctly. I mentioned this in my thread on a "bent" safety bar. In hindsight, I think it appeared bent because the blade was smiling. I got a replacement, and it was definitely smiling. I got ANOTHER replacement, but that was when they told me that they looked at the second razor, and the smile that I see is intentional and part of the design. Looking at pictures from this journal, it looks like earlier razors don't have the smile with feather blades. Another user has mentioned that he has a smile with feather blades as well.

I think they were hoping it passed by without too much of an issue. for a company that produces a $300 razor to just pass off on the reported issues, that's pretty ridiculous..

Above I suggested giving the OneBlade folks the benefit of the doubt. My thinking has changed as there is a little too much smoke for there to be no fire.

My best guess matches what andrewjs18 said and kept selling them thinking that folks wouldn't notice. Isn't it interesting that a very significant sale on the razors coincides with shipping defective razors.

My guessing extends to them realizing that there was about to be a total mutiny in the wet shaving community and decided they would have to respond in a better manner. Considering the price point, my expectation would be that they notify all customers that may have been effected and offer to swap them out.

I also don't believe for a minute that they were trying to improve the steel as it is made from very high quality steel.

I'm guessing the US makes it easier, though would like a better understanding.

I bought a shaving brush from Great Britian recently via Amazon.  Shipping was $3.22 via Royal Mail.  It took a couple of weeks, though I did get it.  There were no duties or taxes that I paid.

I also purchase a lot of items that are shipped from China.  Shipping charges are low and I've never been charged tax.

Having said that, I've read so many comments from non US folks that something must be different for them.  Can someone help me understand?

Obviously this is a bit off-topic, but since the question was on this thread, I thought I’d respond as briefly as possible. (Which apparently was not brief at all — sorry!) As someone who used to live in northern Europe, I can tell you that ordering from abroad can be prohibitively expensive.

A fellow on a Finnish shaving forum recently said that he wanted to place an order from a fairly well-known U.S. vendor. The items he would have ordered were worth $30. He abandoned the order when, at checkout, the cheapest shipping costs would have been over $30. (I just tested this myself — a $29.25 order of shaving supplies, using the cheapest possible shipping method to Finland, costs $34.50 in shipping.)

Now, add to that the fact that since the value of his order would have been over the government-imposed 22 € limit, he would have been liable for a value-added tax of anywhere between 12–24% (I’m not sure which percentage applies to shaving products). That’s an extra $4–7.

So for $30 worth of items, we’re looking at:
• $35 in shipping
• $4–7 in customs fees.

Now, does every package get stuck in customs? No, in most countries, including Finland and the U.S., the amount of privately ordered goods coming in is overwhelming. That is why most of us who ever order from abroad never end up paying added customs/taxes, even though sometimes (by law) we should.

As for why shipping from Britain to the U.S. is so affordable, I cannot answer that question. I find it interesting that ordering from a British vendor often costs half the shipping fees of ordering from within the U.S.

Anyway, I hope this helped answer your questions.

I wondered the same thing when I ordered from Connaught, Matsilainen. How can it cost the same or even less than having stuff shipped from Maggard, which is a 1.5 hour drive from my house? Truly baffling...

It’s one of life’s great mysteries. A defiance of all common logic. Who knew that the postal system is actually that great “final frontier”…

Any new OneBlade developments today? Smile

OneBlade: Someone connecting the dots that there seems to be an interesting correlation between the shipping of defective razors and the big $199 sale. I was communicating with an other DFS member today who just bought a OneBlade who didn't know about the problem, so I did a general post announcing it.

International Shipping: First, I didn't mean to hijack the subject, though I think this will be over and the thread can get back to the OneBlade.

I think that countries from which the shipment originates have a big impact on the price of the shipment. The USA is one of the world's biggest markets and I think countries want to sell things here and lower the rates to ship here. I drew this conclusion after pricing 1 and 2 lb shipments to places like Vancouver, Great Britain, Italy and Finland.

USPS First Class is the least expensive means of shipping available to folks like us. The lowest price to ship a 1 lb price to Canada is $15.50. The lowest price to send a 2 lb shipment anywhere in Europe is $22.50 and we are talking slow boat to China.

I have something inbound from the Czech Republic and shipping was under $5. I have a $6 item coming from China with free shipping. I just bought a brush from Great Britain and the shipping was around $8.

This would explain why so many of our non USA folks talk about shipping costs, because they are simply outrageous.

nothing new since I told them I'll wait until they get a new shipment to get a replacement. I did ask the following:

1- will someone be putting a feather blade into the new batch before sending them out to ensure that there's 0 blade smile?
2- can my 30-day trial start once I get the replacement as I don't feel I'm testing a properly functioning razor.

whether or not someone believes a blade smile affects a shave enough to bother is moot to me. for $300 ($200 with a coupon), I expect a flawless razor, point blank.

Brexit. You got to love the falling pound. Smile As to the rest, it could all be legit.

First, see http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread....e-sold-out It appears in June this razor sold out. Perhaps everything is true, they made a new batch, and it had problems. Maybe they are sorting it out.

Second, this $99 off discount is not the best. I doubt there is a "conspiracy". A year ago the discount was $104 https://damnfineshave.com/thread-the-cre...stansberry in prime time, just at the Christmas Rush. In fact, this razor might have been always on sale. Anyone who paid $299 just didn't do their due diligence because there are "discounts" of some kind continually.

I've been watching OneBlade's website pretty closely since the smiling issue came up. They now have a posting that they have sold out of razors and will have more soon.

For me, this supports the assertion that they have knowingly sent defective razors.

hopefully we were causing a big enough stink for them to pull their remaining stock of defective razors and to alert anyone who has a oneblade with a smiling feather to write in to request a replacement.
