Andrew, You might try a GEM. It may be that the Feather is too sharp for your skin. How was the shave as far as irritation?

RSP1, you might email them and see if what their stance really is on the return. Your auto correct seems to have turned a word you meant into 'smile', what is the concern you were sharing?

BTW, I tried two more gems. I reversed the blade using the same blade twice. My observations.

A. First shave was by far the worst. Second was better.

B. The feathers are much sharper and do a much better job. They simply cut better. I had to go over the same area multiple time with the gems but not the feathers in the same way.

I'll just save the remaining gems I have for emergencies but see no point in using them again. I got no issues with the glue, don't care and it doesn't get in the way. When I first saw it I followed their directions and just put some lather on the blade and it worked. Now I don't care. They still load easily. I do have an issue with availability but in the big scheme of things, its no big deal. I just buy 6 months supply at a time in bulk and don't worry about it. What will be will be.

I applaud you for trying the GEMs. Clearly they didn't work well for you. There is no doubt that the Feather is sharper and will cut better. Usually, the stropping will smooth out the GEM from the get go. It makes sense to me that the Feather requires fewer passes.

I have become a fan of blades that aren't quite as sharp. While I love my OneBlade, what I really want to to shave with are vintage razors that are older than I am. I was giving up. The double edge Feathers were smooth, but I kept seeing blood. Another DFS member sent me some Gillette Swedes. They are quality blades, though not as sharp as the Feathers. Along with better technique, that has changed everything.

I haven't shaved enough with with Feather 10's to know for sure, though it looks like being a little less sharp, the GEMs cause less blood.

This wet shaving game really is a YMMV situation. Fortunately, there are multiple options for all of us.

first shave tonight with the oneblade.  I only do 1 pass and shave from south-north on my lower neck below my beard line.  'riding the pivot' was a little awkward as I had to rock the razor backwards from my starting point and apply some pressure.  not the closest shave I've ever had and I did get 1 small weeper. I guess it'll get better with time!

The first shaves will be a bit awkward. It needs a few shaves to learn how the pivot works, with a light pressure. It's a totally different experience than any other SE we know so far. Personally, it soon became my favorite razor, followed by the Schick Lady Eversharp Injector. I don't use my DEs lately.

yeah, I'm going in for my 2nd go with the razor tonight. I hope I can eventually get it to work well for me as the razor is simply gorgeous and I like everything it has to offer in terms of looks, the pivoting head, its material, the weight, length, etc..

I'm going to try the feathers for 1-2 more shaves before I swap it out for a GEM. I'll palm strop the GEM before loading it.

I had my first shave with the OneBlade today. It was a 3 pass so-so shave that wasn't worth $300. I have some GEMs coming this week so I'll see how that goes. Right now I prefer my ATT SE1.

Andrew, shaving has been a challenge for you due to your skin type. I would expect a learning curve in your case based on your history.

I did and I rode the pivot for the shave. I'm not sure I like the pressure involved as of yet, and I had several weepers. This all could change with the GEM. I'm typically not a huge fan of feathers.

Yeah, I see less blood with the GEMs. Remember to strop it before the first use.

I definitely will. I think the OneBlade has some promise if the GEM blades work out. I really never felt like it would bite me and I don't feel any irritation 8 hours later. Just some weepers, and not the closest shave I've ever had. Definitely a DFS, but I had to work for it. I can't help but wonder if the smiling blade makes the gap so small it's always going to take 3-4 passes?
