I've tried the shallow shaving angle you described, but find I get a closer shave if I bring the handle closer to my face to more of a 45 degree angle. I'm certain the blade is seated well, with the two blade corners neatly tucked into the stoppers. The razor is near mint condition, and works flawlessly.

To be clear, my issue is that I can't get the same close shave with the MMOC as I can with the DEs I use, or my Mongoose with a Feather Pro Super. The razor works fine, just like my vintage Gillette DEs, but none of them give me a truly long-lasting extremely close shave like an ATT H2, Muhle R41 or Ikon Shavecraft Tech. I still enjoy it, but I thought the reputedly most aggressive vintage SE would be more aggressive.

This is just another one of those things that gets to be filed under individual skin/hair chemistry. I can't even begin to imagine the OCMM as you are referring to it on my skin, but there is no denying how it performs on your skin. Just another one of those lovely instances in our hobby that keeps this so exciting.

Here are the pro's and con's as I see it based on their advertisement alone:

Pro's:
#1. Seriously attractive razor, modern and elegant looking
#2. By all accounts a good shaver
#3. Sharp likes it and he has pretty good taste, so it must be goodSmile

Con's
1. The claim that it's 'the best razor on earth, period'. Shaving just isn't a one size fits all thing and no single product is really the best for everyone.
2. Blade Cost. This razor seems to be geared for cart shavers as blade cost is similar. They recommend only using a blade for 1 shave and the subscription fee for 30 blades is 27.95 a month. For price I can buy 300 Astra SP blades and shave 900 times. 900 shaves vs 30 shaves, this is significant.
3. While looking at their website I noticed they had a Castle Forbes Travel kit for $99.95. This includes 50ml preshave, 50ml cream & 50ml Balm. This is way overpriced IMO.

I think your list of cons is easily overcome.  #1: who cares what they claim, just a little hyperbole. Heck, some people even call the L'Occitane Plisson "the brush of the gods."  #2: a savvy wetshaver can easily find blades for much, much less $.  #3: don't buy it.  There, that leaves you with only pros!

There is one con that can't be easily overcome:  $300!

Keep in mind when I refer to the Plisson as The Brush of Gods, I'm saying that it is for ME. I've mentioned that lots of times. Their claim is that it's the best razor, period.

The other con's are just for discussion.

I have used a lot of razors in my 40 years of wet-shaving and I find the claim of best razor period to be pretty accurate. Of course that
is just my opnion.--In 40 years of wetshaving,I have never gotten closer, smoother shaves from any other razor period Big Grin

Hard to argue with that endorsement.

TSEvangelist, I was just jerking your chain a little bit.  I recognize you are not marketing the Plisson brush.  Here's one of these Smile  for ya.  I don't mind some sales puffery.  I'm pretty sure that Budweiser is not "The King of Beers" nor is Gillette the "Best A Man Can Get."  BTW, I don't disagree with you about the Plisson brush.  I used one this morning while I was shaving with the best razor on this planet or any other: the OneBlade*

"The best razor in the world, in the best case made" - Ever-Ready ad, circa 1915

"The Finest Razor On Earth" - Kampfe Bros. advertisement, circa 1900

"The best razor on Earth. Period." - OneBlade 2015

Would kind of kill the ad if they added "In our opinion, YMMV". Good to see a company take so much pride in their products, like in days past...

That definitely provides context.
