your thoughts on a feather as-d2 razor

who has one and do you like it? Hobbyist recommended I try one as he had the same issues with bumps and ingrowns on his lower neck that I do until he gave the feather as-d2 a whirl.

I think it will help you immensely. This is my travel razor and I wouldn't use anything else on the road.

Last week I tried an Astra SP blade in the AS-D2, but it just wasn't the same. I am selling everything else off and trying really hard not to buy anything new because I find that switching razors throws off my technique. Get one, use it exclusively for 4 weeks and you will see.

Despite its reputation as a mild shaver, I get great results every time I use it as long as I stick with Feather blades.

I agree on Feather blades, however, the Kai blades also work exceptionally well in the AS-D2. I use Feathers more often, but I sometimes use a Kai to change things up. There really isn't much difference in sharpness or face feel for me, but the Kai maintains it's edge longer.

In addition to Feather blades, I've also used the Rockwell and NOS Gillette Brazil-made blades (that are showing up in some US stores like Walgreens) and getting equally close shaves. With the AS-D2, it's all about angle with me, and I have one of those beards that loves the more aggressive razors (like the iKon Tech and the GEM MMOC).

It is my only razor now, with one stock version and one given a stealth finish by Delta Echo. Both heads pair very well with somewhat heavier handles, such as those from Triad. With a sharp and smooth blade (such as my vintage Wilkinson Light Brigades, as well as modern Super Iridiums and Perma-Sharp Supers) it gives me a close, smooth, easy shave every time so long as I pay attention to what I am doing and use the right pressure and angle. The angle is especially critical for getting a good shave with it. Given all that, I love it.
